Okay, I am halfway through the book (2002 version). I have seen quite a few posts about the % breakdown for carbs/fat/protein. I want to make sure that I keep in that reccomended range, but what chapter in the book discusses the breakdown?

    Thanks!!

5% carbs, 60% fat and 35% protein I think. I don't remember where it is but I think its there someplace.

      It's not in the book!

It's one of those things that is a "rule of thumb" based on people's experiences.

Since Atkins is a high fat way of eating, it turns out that if you eat all your calories, eat all your 20 net carbs, then the ratios turn out to be about 60-75% of your calories are from fat, 5% are from carbs, and 20-25% is from protein.

      Hope that helps!

        Re: Book Trivia

If one follows the Acceptable Food List for Induction (including veggies other than lettuce) the percentages will likely fall within the percentages that are often quoted on this board.

The percentages were quoted, as I recall, in a Duke University Study.

Ditto to what IrishIrish wrote. Those percentages are from the Duke University Study and is based on an analysis of the menues in the Atkins book. So it is truly a "rule of thumb".

The take home message is to follow the Rules and eat what's on the List. Doing so will get you into that "fat burning" mode Dr. Atkins promised.
