  • Embarrased to admit this

...but two weeks ago the wheels came off the wagon. After a successful two-week induction, I moved on to OWL. The weight was stubborn about coming off - I lost a total of 6 pounds in five weeks - nothing dramatic, but I could tell that my body was responding to the new way of eating. I am confident that I could have lost more, but I wasn't keeping an eye on my sodium and calorie intake, so I am sure that's why I only lost 6 lbs.

Right before Christmas, I snapped. A "little" bit of bread here, a "little bit of chocolate" there, and my wife insisted on making Christmas cookies (which are going in the garbage today.) Well, I ended up gaining most of those 6 pounds back rather quickly. I feel like crap, I am not sleeping well, s*x drive is non-existent, and I am carrying a large amount of guilt because I fell off the wagon.

My wife has agreed to go on Atkins with me starting today. She is doing it more to support me than for herself, because she was able to lose 50 lbs without doing Atkins. She lives with my "down" mood, she sees what happens when I don't sleep, and she notices the weight.

So it is back on induction - this is day one.

Good for you for getting back on track. But remember this: According to Dr. Atkins, losing inches is a better indicator of fat loss, because a loss of inches represents fat leaving your body.

During my weight loss journey, I ran into a few months where I didn't really lose weight: lost a pound one week, up two pounds the next week, down two pounds the next week, down a pound the next week, up a pound the next week, etc. However, I lost clothing sizes. So while the scale stood still, I became a smaller person. And let's face it.....no one knows how much you weigh unless you walk around with a sign that says "Hi. Today I weigh X pounds.", but they and you WILL notice that you look smaller and that your clothes fit better or looser.

So keep that in mind if you think the scale isn't moving fast enough for you.

The other thing is to do a reality check. You lost 6 pounds and it's "nothing dramatic". Well, today go to the grocery store and pick up a 5 pound sack of flour and carry it in your arms, up and down every aisle----you'll see how heavy those 5 pounds are!!!!

One of the worst things you can do during your weight loss is to think the amount of weight you have lost isn't that much or fast enough: doing that will only discourage you. Keep in mind that every ounce you lose is that much closer to your goal and every ounce you regain is that much further away from your goal.

I tried to rep ya, Megs but I must spread some love first!! The reason the above post is so deserving is because it is laced with truth!

My weight has been "stuck" at the same number since July but my clothes are looser. I look better than I did in July. I am more fit. I certainly have more muscle tone. I KNOW I FEEL better than I would have with any other way of eating.

Bocajoes, the fact is, sometimes it gets slow...even with some tweaking, sometimes it's slow on the scale. It's tough to remember but we MUST remember, it's not just the number on the box that lives on the floor. It's many factors that make us more healthy than we've known in such a long time. I understand where you're coming from. I've been there. Recently, as a matter of fact! Hang in there! Just renew your journey! The support of your wife may be just thing that turns things around for you. This journey is a wonderful thing to share with your spouse!

So, dust yourself off and begin again! New year! New Start! New you!! Can't wait to hear about your success. It's on the way!

          Good for you!

I have been on again off again so many times with Atkins, and it all starts with a "little" here and a "little" there. Its not easy especially when your not seeing the results you expect.
The important thing is that you keep getting back ON that wagon right? I think having your wife do this with you will make a big difference. Its so hard when the other partner in the house is eating cookies or having a beer. I have gone through that a lot with hubby. I finally just got him on it too. He started induction Monday. He has already lost 6 lbs. WOW. I am a little jealous...LOL
Anyway, my point If I ever get there, is that as many times as I have done this over the last couple years, he has never done it with me, and so I think this will make a difference for us too. Its a great start, your going to get where you want to be, and now that your wife is on board, you'll be that much more successful!
Enjoy winning this battle, because your going to!

            >>especially when your not seeing the results you expect.>>

That's why it's best not to "expect".

If Atkins truly is a "way of eating", then the weight loss and other benefits are the very pleasant side effects of eating.

Welcome back. Keep on posting... helps me remember why I'm doing Atkins so the Christmas cookies don't look so cute.
