  • Carbalose flour

A friend years ago whose husband was doing Atkins made me low-carb chocolate cookies for my birthday. It was so thoughtful of her... and I ate every one right there. I can't tell you if they were good or not because I ate them so fast I didn't taste them. Shows what I do with "treats", ha?

Anyhow I still have this bag of Carbalose flour from back in those days when I frequently winged it rather than read the book, ask questions, etc.. I notice it has grains, so obviously not acceptable until rung 9, right? I would like your opinions in the meantime.

I'm thinking of using it in regular recipes, not cakes and treats and such. I know exactly where that'd lead...

Do you use it in recipes? Do you have any issues with craving or blood sugar fluctuations afterward?

    Re: Carbalose flour

In the 6+ years I'm doing Atkins, I've never owned any.

I certainly wouldn't use it until Rung 9 of OWL, though I know many people who treat it like Atkins Bake Mix and think it's OK anytime after Induction.

OK well thanks... I'm thinking I can probably live just fine without it. It's not sold locally anymore, would have to be ordered. Not so sure now I want it as part of my permanent lifestyle change.

Is Atkins bake mix OK after induction? I assumed it was like the bars & shakes...full of Rung 9+ foods. I can't get it locally either, I'd have to order it.

Suzanne, some people consider soy to be acceptable after Rung 2 - which would mean that soy flour is OK. I use it occasionally. I'm not sure if I'm into soy, but this is the only soy product that I use, and only in 1 recipe that I make rarely. I plan to replace it with whole wheat flour in Rung 9.

If you look at the current bake mix, and the list of ingredients, I would consider it a Rung 9 food ... assuming one tolerates wheat products at all.

I have some of the old formula ... and I have a cookie recipe that I use it for ... but I only make them about once a year.

I've been able to do just fine without it.

I would not bother with the bake mix. It is easy enough to put together a few "flours" to make your own and it would be much cheaper. I mix a few things like nut flours, soy, gluten, and brans when I want to bake.
