  • anyone ever take Mirapex or simenet?

I recently found out I have RLS and this is why I do not sleep well. I did a sleep study and saw the sleep doctor today. He has put me on Mirapex and Simenet. Have any of you been on either of these medications? My biggest concern is that side effects for Mirapex seem to be weight gain - yet some experience weight loss on simenet.

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever been on these and what their side effects were in regards to weight...

Re: anyone ever take Mirapex or simenet?

Let me just start out that everyone is different but...I went on Requip and within one year I gained about 25 pounds. When I started the drug, I only had RLS a few nights a week. The medication messes with your dopamine receptors and your body becomes used to the drug. I had to increase the medication every few months and by the end of one year, I tripled the original dosage and was having RLS every night of the week and had to space out my dosage over the course of the day to get relief.

Requip made me significantly sleepy about 30 minutes after taking it. I would fall asleep at 7pm every night. There were some other side effects I didn't like either. A few months ago, I stopped taking it. It was torture trying to get off of it. My body was just so used to it. I started taking magnesium and folic acid after reading online that that helps with RLS. I only now occasionally get the RLS a few nights a month and if it's bad, I take Tylenol PM to help me fall asleep.

You should really read up on Mirapex and Simenet (the company I work for makes it too!). They may be a little different than Requip.
