  • Aching arms in induction

    Hi all,

I'm at the end of my 3rd day on Induction & i'm getting really aching arms like i've exercised without a proper warmup.

I did Atkins for a week a few months back and i got the aches then, i've read about leg cramps but not arms.

Is this common? What does it mean and more importantly, how can i get rid of it, it's not nice at all.

    Thanks

So your multi vit has minerals too? I would try some extra potassium and magnesium to see if that helped. If this persists perhaps you should see a doctor

I've gotten this - but it was when I tried to do a low-fat/low-cal version of Atkins a few years ago...
I was also drinking a about 2-3 diet cokes a day.. plus lots of other things that had sweetener..
And I wasn't taking my vitamins.

I'm not saying you're doing that... lol. I'm just saying I think I know the feeling..
          lol
I got so worried when all of my muscles started feeling tight and fatiguing (sp?) - I was worried my heart would do the same thing!!

Anyway.. hope it's not what I went though.
Started Atkins on December 8th, 2005

          Officially Re-Focusing on 12-28-09.

          Was, Am, Will be: 280/222/175ish.
Started Dec 2005 and lost 105 lbs by mid 2006, maintained loss for the most part until 2009...then really let go & gained some back... lol

          so:
          Restart Progress:
          12/28/09 ~ 235.1
          01/04/10 ~ 229.0
          01/11/10 ~ 229.0 Grrrrr....
(Induction= only 6lbs but lost 10 inches! yay)
          01/18/10 ~ 227.4
          01/5/10 ~ 226.8
          02/01/10 ~ 222.6

Really one of the things I have been asked a lot recently is cramps of all sorts. You really can have them in any of the big muscles. The amount of potassium in normal OTC supplements is woefully low 100mg. You might try adding a bit of No-Salt (potassium Chloride) with adds 600mg per 1/8th tsp. The recommended daily dose of Potassium 4-5 grams.

Thanks for the replies, the vitamins don't have minerals in them.

Not sure i can get No Salt in the UK?

                You can find it here:
Amazon.com: No Salt Regular: 11 OZ: Gourmet Food

It's a bit more expensive than in Walmart. It's found in the spices section. Another option is Morton's Salt-Lite, but that is 50-50 NaCl (regular salt) and KCl (potassium salt) and is consequently only half the amount of potassium per eight tsp.

Ah, well both were reduced sodium salt, one with Sodium Chloride (50%) , Potassium Chloride , Anti-caking Agents (Magnesium Carbonates, Potassium Ferrocyanide) .

and another with Potassium Chloride (66% min.) , Sodium Chloride (33.3% max.) , Anticaking Agent (Magnesium Carbonate) .

The one I use (Lo-salt) has the same ingredients as the second one you mentioned, G-D.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Without knowing your specific situation or dietary intake if I was having some muscle cramps not related to workouts, making sure I was getting enough Potassium would be the first step I would take.
