  • Fat?

Okay, so I have been keeping track of my eating on a daily basis in Fatsecret.com. I have been in a 70/25/5 range, give or take and around 1800-2000 calories a day and 20-25 net carbs. I am a female, 5 ft 11 inches and 255 lbs.

Question- I looked at my day today, and I had 2,300 calories (still 70/25/5), 25 carbs, and 200 grams of fat!! IS that bad? I mean, 200 grams of fat...jeez, that is like 1,800 calories of fat alone. Is that a complete derail of my WOE? I don't know what the deal was today and I will try to eat less tomorrow, but is 200 grams too much fat for a day?

It just scares me that I had a high calorie day and so much fat. I am still a little scared of the high fat idea. I logically believe the evidence, but it still gets me emotionally LOL

      Re: Fat?

repeat after me fat is our friend, eating dietary fat as part of my Atkins will not make me fat!

Atkins is a ketogenic diet and since it takes more of the calories in the fats to process them to energy in the human body then it does carbohydrates switching from a high carb diet to a high fat one can hepl you lose weight.

If you were eating every bite cause you were hungry then your day's total cals is what your body needs today. tomorrow you could be less hungry and you will eat less cals. that is how things go as we don't do the exact same thing each day so our cal needs should vary accordingly.

      hang in there

oh and are you the same carbonator who was here in 2003?

        Re: Fat?

I started exercising on Tuesday- 30 minutes walking daily. I have lost 10 lbs so far (after 3 weeks), but lately, the scale has not moved much. I am thinking it might be water retention, because I will weigh higher in the mornings than the afternoons and I eat about 1/2 my calories at dinner time. But then I doubt myself and think maybe the diet will not work for me.

I feel thinner and my face looks thinner, so I think I am doing okay... Its just a little disappointing at times. I need to measure, but ugh... I don't want to see those measurements

Thanks for the advice 2Big4mysize... No, I am Carborator version 2.0

okay not the carbonator from way back.

if nobody told you it is perfectly normal to have a slight scale weight loss hesitation after the initial weight loss on any weight loss diet. that is why those inches lost are so important. because of complicated biochemical reasons our bodies do not want to collaspe inward upon them selves rapidly ( think squished garden hose and you will know part of the reason why) so they are madly stuffing fluids in the places that fat molecules are being removed from. because the fluids are denser they will allow you to see inches lost while the scales fail to validate your hard work. but eventually that fluid will cause bochemical interferance and your body will generate a chemical to remove it and whoosh overnight the scale moves disporotionatly to what you ate and did yesterday. then the cycle repeats.

also if your exercise is a new to you load on your muscles they will think you are under attack and take steps to be ready to rescue you from whatever danger caused you to stress them cause nobody stresses muscles for fun . once the body realizes that load is the new normal load that fluid will be released too. Brook can add 5-10 pounds just changing her exercise video.

2Big4mysize- you are awesome. Your explanation makes a lot of sense. I drank 120 ounces of water yesterday and only went "potty" 4 times!!! I think I am definitely in retaining mode!! Thank you so much for your help.
