I get emails from Laura Dolson and she recommends liquid splenda. I just got a bottle of Da Vinci sugar free syrup and a little bottle of EZ-Sweetz yesterday. It could be just a coincidence but today I've been really hungry and possibly craving sweets a bit. Could it be from the splenda?

I've been allowing myself one chocoperfection bar a day - before I go to bed. That's my sweet allotment and now that it doesn't give me the runs anymore I have no problem with that (except the expense).

You bet! Splenda really causes cravings for some people. Some, it doesn't bother at all. My guess is, that it's no coincidence.

Through my experience with the Atkins Board, some members have no difficulty with the various sugar substitutes including the ones recommended in DANDR. Having said that, there are many who recognize that any sugar substitute is a trigger for more sugary tasting snacks.

Personally, I rarely consume any snack or beverage that contains any sugar substitute. It isn't a slippery slope that I care to step onto. My personal preference and it works for me.

I'm one of those splenda challenged folk. It causes me to crave more sweets. I'm what is called a cephalac responder and just the taste of sweets sets me off.

before you give it up you should try testing it again and not any other events going on in your life. some times things are just a coincedence and your todays hunger could just be that.

I would suspect the Splenda...I can have it in my coffee (one a day), but the second I eat food sweetened with Splenda, I am hungry like you wouldn't believe...happened to me yesterday and really freaked me out

A chocolate per day? Before you go to bed?

Are you sure you're not just feeding an addiction?

                  Re: Liquid sucralose

I feel very deprived having absolutely no sweets. I don't eat them all day - just the one chocoperfection bar.

The remark about OWL rung 3 - was that a joke? After all the comments back and forth about OWL? Since I've been on the diet since October, let's say I've been through all the rungs. I don't eat dairy or grains or legumes, so I skipped those rungs but I eat chocoperfection and nuts. No need to try those foods because I don't intend to eat them. I'm still at about 25 oz. or less of net carbs a day so I don't know where I am, but those rung comments aren't helpful to me. Since I only want to lose another 5-10 pounds, maybe we should think of me as in the next stage - pre-maintenance, just eating low carbs (as I always did).

The other comments were helpful. I think people on this board are always knowledgeable and helpful and I'd like to still use this board. The moderators give advice directly from DANDR 2002 but there is always a preponderance of other useful information like, "Splenda gives me cravings and makes me hungry" which is what I asked for.

Maybe if you consider yourself on rung 3 or 4 or something you should change your phase info to reflect that. It makes it easier to give advice when we know where the people are on their journey.
I am personally OK with splenda but there are things I come across that may throw me off like that. And I agree it is good to share this info and it is good to think about it.

Sweets should be an occasional occurrence though, not every day items on our menus.

Your phase info says "Extended Induction".

I removed it because I realized you are in extended Induction and with 55-60% cocoa per bar (50 g), that's about 1 oz of cocoa powder.

I forgot about having a phase in my header. Can I change it to pre-maintenance? That was just in reference to a long conversation on another thread.

                            Sure you can.

The options are nothing, 14-day Induction, Extended Induction, OWL Rung X, Pre-Maintenance and Maintenance.

Is there a problem with 1 oz of cocoa powder or are you saying it's OK? I also have a cup of unsweetened cocoa with stevia every morning instead of coffee. I think dark chocolate is supposed to be good for you.
