    Re: Liquid sucralose

You have to watch your artificial sugar intake. Sneaking a cup here a bit there adds up. It is not really low carb to cut down on food but replace everything with artifical sugars. Three a day is a good limit to stick to. I love sweets to but it is a major problem for me and I like living with this particular limit.
I don't think cocoa in itself is bad but like with splenda not everyone would do OK with it. The addictive dimension is something to think about

For extended Induction (NOT the first two weeks!), 1 oz of nuts/seeds per day can be fine. However, chocolate should not be a daily occurrence.

And if one wants to have nuts, daily cocoa/chocolate is definitely not what I'd recommend!

I also have a cup of unsweetened cocoa
Then you are having more than 1 oz of cocoa per day.

Where does it say not to have unsweetened chocolate everyday? Assuming I'm not in my first 2 weeks of extended induction.

It may be allowed put there are pitfalls. The fact that you are so dependent on it may be something to think about (as well as adding that chocolate also make you add sweeterners)

          Atkins writes that
Trigger foods-ones to which you are addicted-are the ones you can't stop eating, and they are the very foods you should not add back. It might be peanuts, chocolate, potato chips or something else. If you find you are always planning when you can have your next portion of that food, cut it out altogether, or be sure to have it just once a week, perhaps as a Friday night treat. Only you know whether the first or the second strategy will work better for you. Remember, it's about what works!
Excessive caffeine (found not only in coffee but in tea, chocolate and many soft drinks) has been shown to cause a hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) reaction, which will provoke cravings and cause you to overeat. Omitting caffeine may be a big sacrifice for you, but, in my experience, weight loss often starts up again as soon as people remove aspartame and caffeine from their regimen.

1 snickers bar has 32.5 net carbs. 1 chocoperfection bar has 2 net carbs. We can't allow perfection to be the enemy of the good. I'm not in danger of eating them uncontrollably because I only have 1 a day. Can't afford more. Also, I allow myself the caffeine in 1 cup of cocoa in the morning and I guess my chocoperfection bar. I also drink diet soda but only caffeine free.

            But thank you.

              Probably not.

              But have you?

              >>'m still at about 25 oz. or less of net carbs a day>>

              Ounces of carbs?

25 net carbs would be the first rung of OWL.

                Re: Liquid sucralose

I would start by eliminating the suspected culprits, and see if the cravings go away. I know the "Atkins" bars and shakes make me climb the walls with cravings. So does the Breyer's low-carb ice cream. I also can't handle pork rinds, just sit there chomping till the bag is empty.

An important part of this diet for me has been adding new foods slowly, slowly so that I can clearly see if I can handle it or not. If I have cravings or uncontrolled eating as a symptom after eating a certain food, it's going to be eliminated from my grocery list.

                  Re: Liquid sucralose

I went through the whole elimination thing many years ago. I never thought I had a problem with carbs. I thought (think?) my problem is food allergies. I stopped eating sugar, wheat, corn and dairy. I felt a million times better. Then, later, I realized I had a problem with rice, potatoes, and grapes so I stopped eating them too. The last few years I started putting on weight so I tried "Atkins" - my version anyway - and I feel still better. But I definitely understand the whole craving - food-sensitivity thing. Atkins probably had that in mind with adding one thing at a time.

But after all of my years of self-denial, I'm not really prone to lack of control with food.

                    Re: Liquid sucralose

I don't really have much of an issue with portion control with food either (except, well, Nacho Cheese Doritos ) - but following the OWL rungs has identified foods that don't agree with me (and has also encouraged me to broaden my food choices).

A great example is that I think I have identified a specific brand of bacon that just makes me retain water and not progress in losing weight or inches, whereas a different brand causes me no problems whatsoever. I wouldn't know that if I weren't doing OWL and controlling adding things in progression (and tracking what I eat, of course).

And it wasn't only one food at a time because of portion control/food allergies - it was adding in additional carbs (and progressively higher glyemic index foods) as well, so you could determine your CCLL. It's a key concept to Dr. A's plan - he did not expect the vast majority of us to live on low-glycemic veggies and 25 net carbs forever.

It could be just a coincidence but today I've been really hungry and possibly craving sweets a bit. Could it be from the splenda?

I've been allowing myself one chocoperfection bar a day - before I go to bed. That's my sweet allotment and now that it doesn't give me the runs anymore I have no problem with that (except the expense).

does your bar have splenda in it? if so it might not be the splenda that triggered you.

Chocolate has over 48 known pharacutical chemicals in it so it is very possible your brain is medicating you with it. You might want to look at all choclate can do.
caffeine content of chocolate is low as the chemical is actually theobromine not caffeine as was previously thought.

I think it is sweetened with oligofructose and erythritol. So theobromine is the chemical that is addictive?

actually choclate isn't addictive. it is the chemicals in it and there effect on our brain chemicals that causes the cravings. there is a chemical in it that acts just like the ones in marajuana sp? to effect that area of the brain that pot mellows you out in, there is a chemical in it that effects the female sex pleasure areas which is one reason TOM causes cravings for it. it also acts as a vasodialator and a diuretic at the same time. if chocolate was a new to the USA food it would never get past the FDA

I get low sodium sugar free bacon. I can only get it at one supermarket - A & P. they also had it at Publix in Florida.

I thought those things in chocolate were healthy. Something in dark chocolate supposedly does the same thing as red wine (not psychologically but physiologically).

chocolate has lots of antioxidents too as do many other foods and yep the healthy chemicals in red wine are also in chocolate.
