Re: Slowest Atkins weight loss ever?

    Hi Bri!

I see from your ticker you have lost about 1/4 of the weight you want to lose. Congrats on that. Your rate of loss isn't that "bad"----3.1 pounds per month. In fact, it's a good rate of loss. I agree with liv that slower weight loss means you have the opportunity to learn how your body works and that will help you maintain your goal weight.

Don't compare yourself with anyone else (especially your husband because men lose "faster" than women) because it will only discourage you. Believe me, I know. My little sister and I started Atkins at the same time: she's two years younger than I am, we are the same height and she weighed a couple of pounds more than I did. Guess what? She lost her weight faster than I did.

The bottomline is that you ARE losing the weight. And don't pooh-pooh the 12.6 pounds. If you don't think 12.6 pounds is "that much", then I challenge you to carry two 6 pound weights or a 12 pound sack of potatoes while you walk around your house today---you'll see how heavy 12 pounds are!

Also have you lost clothing sizes?

have you tried sticking to rung 1 foods?

when i ate berries rung 4 that would make me stall

and even spagetti squashes in rung 1 would make me stall cause i ate to much and same for whipping cream i ended up haveing to eat only the lowest carb foods to lose weight

however sometimes i wonder if i still could have ate berries and them higher carb foods and still have lost weight but only at a snails speed but back then a snails speed was unnoticeable so i would call it a stall

im pretty sure the rung 9, 10 net carb whole wheat wraps refined grains stalled me though cause i did not lose any weight for about 3 months when i ate them for awhile

And Bri, 12.6 lbs is over 27% of the weight you needed to lose when you started. That's a lot!

Hi. Have you had your thyroid checked? An under active thyroid can cause tiredness and hinder weight loss. My mother suffers from this. After her doctor put her on the proper meds, she was able to lose quickly on Atkins.

Thanks for the encouragement. Don't get me wrong - I'm delighted by the 12.6lbs and yes, I have lost clothing sizes and inches and I totally know that counts. I mean, I can see it, and there are photos of me at Christmas that I don't absolutely hate, which is great. I'm fine with a slow loss as long as the trend is DOWN, which it is.

For everyone who's asked if I've tried fiddling with the carbs, the answer is no. I lost slowly on a clean Induction at 20 carbs. I lost at the same slow pace on Rung 1, Rung 2, Rung 3 and Rung 4. I appear to have no issues with any foods added back in and I have never stalled. It's just that I'm losing at what feels to me like a glacial pace.

I guess what I really wanted with this thread was a spot check, to identify:

                      1. That this rate of loss is still within normal range and not some kind of freakish statistical outlier;
                      2. If it's slow enough that I should bring it up with my doctor to see if there are contributing, underlying issues.

I am reassured to know that this is not unheard of, and grateful for the suggestion to get my thyroid checked. Given the fact that I've been pretty tired for about oh, 15 years now, that seems like a sensible suggestion to me and I will get started on that.

Thanks a lot ladies. I really appreciate the advice, suggestions and encouragement. I was never going to give up, I just wanted to check I'm not broken!

There's nothing "freakish" with losing about 1 pound per week. In fact, most weight loss people believe that the "safe rate" of loss is 1-2 pounds per week.

You're not broken! You're you! Like I said, I lost slower than my sister. Take it in stride. You're losing, you're getting healthy and that's the bottomline.

This weight loss thing ain't easy because it has a tendency to mess with our heads. Oh....about your hubby getting compliments and you not getting any....Weight loss is a touchy subject, so some folks are less likely to pat you on the back and say "Wow, you lost weight! You look great!" I think it was 2Big who had this experience.....people noticed she was losing weight, but were afraid to bring it up because they thought she had cancer. So, don't pay attention to what other people say or don't say.
