  • What nuts can I eat--I found out the hard way...

that I am allergic to Macadamia nuts. I have eaten them once or twice a week for several months, and started to realize that I was getting a rash. On Thursday, I ate a bad and my mouth immediately started itching, my throat started itching as well as my scalp, my ears turned bright red and started burning, and the rash came back on my arm.

So, what other nuts are they related to? In the past I have eaten cashews, almonds, and pecans without any problems. We are going out of town and I was counting on nuts as a snack since they don't need to be refridgerated.

you know, at this point I would avoid nuts completely, and see your doctor. He/she might be able to refer you for allergy testing to see what nuts you may and may not be able to eat.

Have you tried the cheese 'chips' yet?
Just microwave small cubes or piles of grated cheese till they bubble up and go crispy. They will last several days in an airtight container or ziplok bag and a few ounces makes quite a number of them.
We went away last year and I made about a pound of them beforehand and made up one ounce sealed bags which lasted a whole week between the two of us.
I've not tried beef jerky as it isnt a readily available 'british' snack food but some people on ADBB find that useful though you do have to look for ones with no sugar.
If you can eat pork scratchings (pork rinds) as a snack they might do - but drink plenty of water with them as they do have a lot of salt.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

        Thanks!

I haven't made cheese chips yet, but my favorite snack is to melt cheese in a flat bottom bowl until the outside is crispy and the inside is gooey--I will try cheese chips.

Beef Jerky is readily available here in Texas--I haven't found a commercial brand that doesn't have a lot of carbs, though. Maybe I can make my own.

        Pork rinds-- :tounge

        Thanks for the suggestions.

Wow I had a reaction like that and yep as Megs said you want to avoid the nuts. My allergist said they don't do foods like they do other things in testing and the way to test with foods is to use the elimination diet which is no fun. he also pointed out that each time you are exposed from now on the reaction will be worse so discuss with your doc about getting a fast acting allergy epi pen type thing as nuts can be processed on the same equipement as other nuts and pick up trqace amounts of the other nut in the processesing.

For your snacks you could take sume flax flax and make flax chips in the micro wave or you could make flax cookies or even muffins and pack them. you can get a small lunch pack and atock it with all your normal snacks and you could always stop at the grocery store and grab some veggies to go or a deli for some cheese and meat slices.. you can get packets of mayo and some salad dressing at a resturant supply store too and carry then with you. If you are traveling by car you can run through the takeout winow and get a snakc too or just pack a cooker and refill it with Ice each day. We Had one mod take herself and 3 kids on a trip cross country and they stopped at the grocery store to buy snacks for the cooler in the AM and munched all day from it. Hers plugged into the dash.

            Happy low carbing.

those coolers are great for lowcarb travel - we bought one with dual voltage so you can take it out of the car when you arrive at a hotel and plug in to the mains.
