    Re: Count calories or not?

    >>will I really learn a lot from the book that I don't get from the internet or the boards?>>

    Yes.

For what it's worth, I've never known anyone to be successful without owning a well-thumbed copy.

      Re: Count calories or not?

This board will help you in a lot of ways, and the stickies will as well. But the book will give you insights as to why it may be harder for you to lose weight this time. But the posters aren't trying to be smart, but so many people come here saying they are doing Atkins, and they are not. And if you don't have a copy of the book, many people believe they are supposed to lose so much weight on Induction, and when it doesn't happen, they will fall off the wagon and give up, the book has a section devoted to why or what medical conditions you may have or need to be tested on that might be related to why you can't lose weight. Those are not in the stickies.

But from your menu you aren't eating enough vegetables at all. Your net grams should be 20 (minus fiber) if you are doing induction. Also are you eating fast? Just eating large quantities of food because you don't have to count calories is not the best idea. In his book Atkins says to eat until full. He said people tend to confuse full with stuffed and this can lead to unnecessary calories.

Also try to eat more slowly. You might register full faster without over eating. And you could just be metabolically resistant now since you are older. Your metabolism may have changed.

        1. I will use FitDay as suggested to track total carbs and calories; and I will raise my net carbs.
        2. The 2002 edition of the book is on the way and I also got the carb counter book.
        3. Drinking lots and lots of water.....
        4. Hoping against hope that this works......

1-3 is great!!!! As for #4, this does work when done right. The trick is figuring that out sometimes!

As for calories, I watch them but not to count them per se like you do on other diets, but to help make sure I am eating enough nor too much. If I am, then something in my percentages or carb counts, or a food may be altering my hunger or satisfaction and I need to adjust what I'm eating. My downfall has often been getting enough healthy fats in to keep my fat % up in 55-65%. I found if I go under that, I'm hungry and not losing as much weight.
