  • I think the rudest response when I tell someone that...

I am doing Atkins is, "You'll gain it back" I think that is worse than it is unhealthy, etc. With any diet--it doesn't matter what you do--you will gain it back if you go back to your old way of eating. grrrrr.

Yup, I've heard that response. I always tell them the same thing......any diet you will gain it back if you go back to old ways....etc It really annoys me when people say that.

Grrrrr! I hate when people say that! There's a chance you'll gain back weight with any WOE, if you go back to your old ways. Which is why you have to take it seriously and make a lifestyle change to support it.

But for myself, Atkins has taught me that I can LIVE without all the junkfood. I know I can do it, and that's the key. Personally, I think (and I've seen) that it is much easier to gain back weight when you're just eating less. If you can have 2 Hershey Kisses today, what's to stop you from eating the whole bag tomorrow??? With Atkins, I know I can avoid it all together, and not have a problem.

Geez, the things people say sometimes!

Yep, that used to really bother me too .. now I just say 'impossible, cuz I'm on this for life!'

Sad thing is, on most other plans that leave you feeling deprived, the odds are you WON'T be able to stick with it for life because you're constantly hungry. People don't see Atkins as being a satisfying lifestyle, but rather 'just another diet' and figure that you're starving yourself and will end up abandoning it after awhile!

If they only knew that the foods we are eating fill us up, satisfy us and eliminate cravings once and for all, they'd be far less convinced that we'll one day walk away from it.

            About cravings...

I have a friend who was questioning me about this WOE. He wants to do it, and sees the weight that I have lost, but he is like me--it took me several weeks to actually start. He was telling me about his cravings and how hard it is at work to pass up desserts, etc. I used to have intense cravings where I would *always* give in. I was telling him that now I still want the desserts, but it isn't that "I have to have it now" type of craving. It's more of "Darn, that looks good, wish I could have some." I have given in a couple of times. Once I ate 4 Girl Scout cookies, but it wasn't the whole box. Anyway, I think it is interesting how my cravings have gone away for the most part and I am down 25 pounds.

Let's not forget the other usual response which is "oh, I could never give up pasta, I love it to much", or "I have a sweet tooth, I would never give up choclate, ice cream...etc.

I am ashamed to admit this.....but before I learned about Atkins, I had a stupid ignorant opinion to.....wanna hear it????

I had a very large neighbor that actually did what lots of people thought Atkins people do. He ate entire packages of bacon for snacks, big bricks of cheese from costco, he would drink heavy cream......go figure grrrrrr I can't even have cream with coffee without stalling :anger I recogonize now, that he was out of control. However, he lost all his weight and got trim. I then watched him go off atkins completely, keep eating all the bacon and cheese and everything else to the extreme while adding back every bad carb known to mankind.

Soooooo, When people mentioned Atkins, I would respond with this spew "Oh yea, you learn to eat all the high fat stuff like bacon, cheese, butter, heavy cream, only to start eating all the other old diet stuff with it when you quit dieting, then you gain all your weight back and double it"! Which is what my neighbor did. I also watched my whole family lose weight, not on maintenence, and gain it all back.

I wonder if allot of people who take on the "you will gain it all back" opinion had seen or heard about neighbors like mine......my neighbor lacked common sense, in every aspect of his life by the way......I can't believe he actually lost 75 pounds on it!!!!! He was not really following the program!!!!!!!! I see that now.

wow, no offense to your neighbor... but that is so disgusting. even before this WOE I could never eat a huge amount of bacon and blocks of cheese... I'm pretty sure that would make me vomit. Hmm.. maybe thats how he lost all the weight?

I don't get the "I'll get it all back" I mostly get "you'll raise your cholesterol" and I tell them yes, I'll raise my good cholesterol.. but my bad is going out the window!

I hope the 10 lbs I know I've lost so far enjoys the bad cholesterol I gave to it as a going away present

I started atkins for the first time in Sept. but after2 weeks I quit losing weight and got disgusted.I stayed off it for a month and noticed that even though I wasn't trying to "diet" I would pick things that were close to it. I found out I had only gained a pound and went all out for it. I realized that even in that short of a time it had made an empact on me.

uggg i hate responces like that to atkins....but honestly i have found that people will find something about any diet or any weight loss program you use...my friend who is on ww gets just as much s#$t as we do, and maybe even more...and it seems that everyone just has these attitudes of if u are fat now u are always going to be fat...which is really ANNOYING....

I know a few people like that I usually respond with one of the two:

1: I may be fat right now but atleast I am dieting and getting thinne, what can you do about being ugly?

(if they are being dumb use no. 2)

                      2. I may be fat right now but atleast I am dieting and getting thinner, what can you do about being and idiot?

and if they keep it up I usually go alright, well you wanna know what you can do with your opinion?

You can take it and kiss my shrinkin @$$.

Childish I know but its fun to argue, but maybe thats me. I hardly lose arguments. People can dish it out but can't take it these days if you show a little backbone they buckle under. Of course the above statements obviously aren't for family or friends. But the others. Family that say I'll gain it back so I simply tell them we will know each other for a long time see me in 5 years and tell me the same thing then! Usually my family don't care they are all laid back farm folk, which is nice becuase they don't care about what you do they just enjoy your company at gatherings.

I know Im blessed but a lot of time my aunts make atkins friendly dishes when I go to family gettogethers. she gets all worried about if she made it right I tell her that shes a great aunt but doesn't need to do that I have adapted to eating in a world of carbs. I can get by and be full. Besides I usually go to the garage and steal one of my uncles vension steaks and go grill it. They just laugh at me. I will never pass up a good venison steak!!! My uncle doesn't care I am the one that keeps his freezer stocked during deer season, rabbit season, squirrel season etc ec etc.

The will always be critics, if there ever was a time atkins stopped getting comments all together I would quit the diet becuase something went wrong. Not everyone is supposed to argree with anything. And I don't think that will happen to the WOE is my WOL!

                      Thank you Dr. Atkins!

(I think im a nice guy :guns )

The strangest response I have had when I told someone that I was doing atkins was

                        "You'll Die".

That was all he said, I almost said well yes we all will evenutally. I decided that ignoring him was the best course of action!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

                          stupid isnt it...

I was in a staff meeting at college today and brought my lunch with me.

                          1 cup raw spinach

                          1 cup blue cheese

                          1/2 cup diced bacon

                          1/2 cup diced strawberries

All of them commented on how tasty my lunch looked. So I say 'yes, nobody would belive im still on Atkins'

One of the Vice-principals then said 'don't be stupid you cant eat that on Atkins, you've got to eat steak and butter and stuff all the time'!!!!

My response was, 'Im amazed that someone as educated as can blindly believe all the rubbish that we see in the media, I thought you would have more intelligence than that!!!!'
