  • Wanting to give up!

This is only the end of my third full day and I already want to give up. Please tell me it gets better after induction?! I've never been a meat eater (in fact I didn't eat meat until I turned 18 and went to college). This is just horrible. I have never been a candy eater- breads, pastas, and Mexican food got me to the weight that I am. Anyways- all I want is candy and sweets and everything I do eat tastes like the nasty dry-rot taste that I have in my mouth. So far I've lost 5 pounds in the 3 days, so its not like I'm not losing weight. On top of it all I have a horrible cold. Sorry for all of the complaining~ I'm usually a very upbeat person. I'm just feeling a little down right now...and it doesn't help that tomorrow will be starting the TOM. Bleh!

So eat Mexican. What about a taco salad for lunch, just can't have the chips but you could have some cheese crisps
Don't eat meat, folks do Atkins as vegetarians and do quite well as long as you can eat eggs and cheese.

Check out Lindas recipe site above. Her four and five star recipes are to die for.

It does get better, much better! If you can, please post your menu for us and maybe we can give you so better ideas of more appetizing foods. This is my second go round and have been doing it since March 17. The feeling of going into Old Navy and buying a pair of size 12 jeans (going in and buying a pair of size 20 was my first encouragement) was worth it all!!! You can eat wonderful foods on this way of life, not just meat. I am not a big meat eater either and really don't eat anymore than I did before I started. You can do this, we will pull you through!

Don't give up!! Candy bread and pasta are so bad for you, and Atkins is so healthy. Believe me the cravings pass and you will come to love this WOE if you just stick it out past induction. It is so hard to break all of our old bad habits, but once you do things are a lot easier. Hang in there.

This is my second time around and the first three days were very difficult for me too. After that third day, my cravings went away and I stopped binge eating so I kept going because I felt great. You just have to keep telling yourself that it's going to get better and push on!

            Re: Wanting to give up!

Please do not give up. I changed my lifestyle to the Atkins WOE 2 months ago, and know how difficult things can be at times. As far as the food goes, the sky is pretty much the limit. Right now you are going through withdraws. They go away! One thing that really helped me out was upping my water intake. Also depending on how sick you are could affect the way that food taste to you. Currently I have a bad case of the flu, and I have to put alot more seasoning on my food for it to appeal to me. Things will get better, I can't stress that enough. Best of luck on your journey!

              Re: Wanting to give up!

Thank you all sooo much for the words of encouragement!! I checked out Linda's Low carb foods list and everything sounded delicious. I see that everything on the induction menus are below 20 carbs each day- but maybe I was being too strict with myself. The book says to limit cheeses to 3-4 oz a day and it sounded like if you did without cheese you would have better results. I also thought her sugar free jello fluff sounded to die for but I was trying to stay away from artificial sweetners. My jello has sucrose in it and I thought that was baisically a no no! I just don't want to stall myself so my meals have consisted of mostly meat.

All I've eaten so far is:
              mushrooms sauteed in butter
              bacon strips
              ham
3 deviled eggs with a cup of lettuce
              3 egg omelette with mushrooms
chicken breast plain- also tried it with 2 strips of bacon, a cup of lettuce and a dab of mayo

              That's the extent of it...

Thanks again for all of your support!

Some people do do better with less cheese. It's a "your mileage may vary" food.

                >>My jello has sucrose in it and I thought that was baisically a no no!>>

Sucrose is sugar, which isn't very Atkins friendly.

And sugar free jello has aspartame, which we're advised not to eat.

And ... jello doesn't give you any nutrition!

As to your food ... you don't really have very many vegetables ... I can't believe you have "most" of your daily net carbs from Induction vegetables. Is there any reason you're only eating lettuce and mushrooms?

Are you reading the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

                  Re: Wanting to give up!

No~ there isn't any reason why I am only eating lettuce and mushrooms. The other "salad vegetables" don't appeal to me much, and since we are limited to only 1 cup of "other vegetables" each day I just thought it was better to stay away from them and stick with 2-3 cups of lettuce and mushrooms. I would appreciate some broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, ect.... I am just trying to adhere to the basics because I really want to succeed. I feel a little better after looking at all of Linda's delicious meals though so I think I can stick out my very strict diet for another 11 days and then I will move on to incorporating her meals- for now I just don't trust them to not stall my weight loss.

                    Re: Wanting to give up!

This is my "canned" response for people who are struggling with induction.

Let's just say that the average life span is 77 years. That's 4004 weeks. Two weeks of your life is 0.00049% of your life. Love yourself enough to devote that much of your life to getting healthy. If you don't love yourself that much, I'm certain your family does. Do it for them. After those two weeks, you will feel better than you ever have, and it all gets easier from there.

                      >> I am just trying to adhere to the basics because I really want to succeed.>>

Rule #3 of Induction states that "most" of your daily net carbs should be from vegetables.

I would suggest you worry less about sticking to 2 cups of lettuce (not much nutrition or carbs there) and get your cups of vegetables from the ones you like best.

It's quite possible to get "most" of your vegetable carbs from Induction vegetables ... limiting yourself to 3 of the lowest carb ones isn't going to do that!

                      >>I think I can stick out my very strict diet for another 11 days>>

Do Atkins, not your "very strict diet"!

There's no reason to be so strict ... there's plenty of room to enjoy food on Induction.

Ummm, no. After only 3 days, that is not an option. Sorry guekjian, but I have to disagree with you there. The OP hasn't made it through induction therefore doesn't know how resistant they are to the WOE.

Induction is only two weeks out of your life. Read through the articles on Ongoing Weight Loss, and you will see that the menus are much more varied. Think of eating such wonderful foods with no cravings, no reflux, just such freedom... at least that's my experience. Glad to see you on the boards and how awesome it is that you posted here instead of cheating!!! Way to go!!!
