    Welcome!

Have you figured out yet what happens that you "cave"?

It's important to know that ... so you don't keep repeating the cycle.

Welcome and good luck! You can do it. As J said, figure out what is making you go off track and then plan a way to avoid it/deal with it. Is there something you are suddenly missing in terms of food? I found that it helped to have meals/snacks that I was excited about, ready to have if I needed them. So, it distracted me from what I thought I was missing and made it so I didn't feel I was missing out. Just a thought.

It really amazes me when I think back to where I was a year ago. A year ago at this time I weighed 189lbs. I didn't start Atkins until April. I have to stop myself and think about it sometimes but how I feel keeps me motivated and feels better than anything I have ever eaten.

Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if you need anything! There are lots of great groups/challenges on the forums too.

My advice would be to examine your triggers. What causes you to break with Atkins on Day 3. Is it lack of knowing the Atkins plan, or poor planning of grocery shopping, meal plans, boredom, availability of carbs in your home, restaurant eating, worksite temptations, excuses?

Find out what your slippery slope is and stay away from it. There really is no other way. Plan your menus, shop accordingly. Avoid buying carby foods or your "downfall" foods. Pack Atkins friendly snacks and take them with you to avoid the drive thru or convenience store options. Invest some of yourself in this way of life and it will be rewarded.

        Best wishes.

          Re: ?? Is the charm!!!

For what it's worth, by my 3rd day of Induction, I was ready to take hostages and exchange them for brownies. Three things really helped me:

1/ Saving my cream allotment and whipping the 3oz with a bit of vanilla, or adding an egg and making a custard thing. I think I did that twice in two weeks.

2/ Pickles. Seriously, they saved my Induction.

3/ Bribery. If I was really tempted to blow my induction, I had a deal with myself where I would go take a walk for an hour and then reconsider. After the hour the craving would always pass.

The urge WILL pass. I also found it helpful to remember that people survive far worse things - people spend 36 hours in child birth or go cold turkey off heroin. If they can do that, you can do this!

I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago. Bit the bullet and have now been on cheat free induction since Jan 5 2010. LOL, you and are are the same weight. You and I should get together and have a contest, and we'll eventually look great win or lose/loose ;}. Let me know if your up for the challenge..

Willpower is probably not enough. Dr. Atkins wrote:

I believe that the best way to overcome temptation is not with willpower, which is so often in short supply, but with our brain power, a potentially unlimited resource.

Imagine that you're doing great, losing weight, feeling better than ever, thrilled with yourself, hearing compliments from friends and acquaintances---and then it happens! Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"
