I was (am?) a big fan of Food Network TV, but I find it's not very Atkins friendly so I haven't been watching it much lately. Then, yesterday while channel surfing, I found a show on FitTV called Blaine's Low Carb Cooking.

It seemed pretty Atkins friendly (though not for induction!!!). I figure he can't use the name Atkins on his show for propietary reasons.

Has anybody else seen this show? Any thoughts about it? Are there any other Atkins friendly shows out there that I should be on the look out for?

George Stella has some Youtube stuff. He was on HGTV years ago when Atkins was really popular. He has a website now as well.

I've seen it a couple of times. He uses to much unnatural stuff for me but he's still fun to watch. Those are old shows and from what I've heard he has gained all his weight back.
I like watching cookiing shows too. More for the entertainment then the recipes. I find Rachael Ray cooks pretty natural and most of her recipes can be modified for low carb.

And Georg's stuff usually isn't Induction friendly, but I figure you can always pick up a few hints here or there.

Sometimes you can pick up some of these show on OnDemand and the like.

I sure hope he didn't gain the weight back? Is that really true?

Yes, that's why I watch cooking shows anyway. To pick up little tips.

I haven't really researched it anywhere. That he put his weight back on. That's just what I've heard from poeple on here and another low carb forum.

            Re: Cooking Shows

The EAdes have a low carb cooking show on PBS (check your local listings). The food they cook isn't bad looking and the recipes are appropriate for the different phases of Atkins.

Personally, I like watching "regular" cooking shows, because there are plenty of naturally low-carb recipes and recipes that need minor tweeking to be low carb (like substituting or omitting an ingredient). And I get ideas from them to apply to my Atkins. For example, I saw a food-travel show where they made "fettucini" from fresh hearts of palm (an Induction acceptable veggie) by peeling off the layers of the hearts. I have yet to try it on canned hearts of palm, but I plan to soon.

              Re: Cooking Shows

I like cooking shows with chefs who use natural ingredients (i.e., real food) and aren't afraid to use fats. My two favorites are Emeril Lagasse and Gordon Ramsay. Ramsay's British show, The F Word has great recipes daily, most of which can be easily made to be Atkins friendly.

I tune into Blaine's show on occasion. I use his nut crust with my lemon cheesecake and it's pretty darn tasty. Other than that, I like watching Food Network shows - esp. Alton Brown, who speaks to my anal-retentive approach to food. Even if the ingredients aren't Atkins-friendly, I like to watch to learn technique. Watching Alton's segment on biscuit-making allowed me to turn out a pretty decent biscuit using Carbquik this evening, in fact!

I still watch my fav (non low carb) cooking shows avidly. When there's a recipe I like the look of, it's a fun challenge to re-invent it low carb. Once into OWL it gets easier and easier... at maintenance, there are few things one can't manage.

After watching Julie & Julia, I put some of Julia Child's old shows in my Netflix queue. This one looks very interesting from The French Chef with Julia Child 2: Disc 1 – Starters, Sauces and Sides... Cooking Vegetables, Vegetable Adventures, Elegance with Eggs, Terrines and Patés, The Hollandaise Family.

Hope to get some great ideas from this. She taught some great cooking techniques (with a lot of humor in the bloopers) and the woman was not afraid to use butter!
