I'm seeing rungs posted all over the site. Are they posted anywhere where I might be able to print them off for reference?
    Thanks

They're in Chapter 14 of your Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002).

If you don't have the book (and if you don't, you should - there's some great stuff in there you won't find anywhere else) there are stickies in the OWL forum that you'll find enlightening.

The word "rung" does not appear in the book. However, the Carbohydrate Ladder is explained in Chapter 14 of DANDR, as J. already pointed out. Since a rung is a bar forming a step on a ladder, when we say "rung" around here we mean a level on the Carbohydrate Ladder. This means OWL Rung 1 will be more Induction vegetables, OWL Rung 2 will be diary, and so on.

          Re: Rungs

Thanks everyone. I did pull out my book and sure enough there was the ladder (rungs) in chapter 14. So if I read this correctly. For OWL I will introduce 5 carbs from the first rung and stick with that for a week. After the week see what effects it had on me. Do I then continue to rung 2 on week 2 and add 5 carbs from that group and so on? Or in week 2 do I use 5 carbs from rung 2 and no carbs from rung 1?

Of course I'm not there yet I'm only on day 4 of induction. Don't want to get ahead of myself.

          Thanks for all your support.

            Re: Rungs

You need not necessarily add the 5 carbs per rung if you have a long way to go in terms of weight loss or if you are extremely insulin resistant. I know I fare better when I stick to 20 net while climbing the rungs. It allows me the continued high fat plan and the tempered approach of testing possible problem foods without sending me on a bender.

If you do follow the 5-per, you will begin adding about 5 carbs on your next rung, which is the added cup of starchy veg.

It's not about weeks ... if it were, everyone would be "done" in 9 weeks!

You can stay on a particular rung for any length of time ... many explore rung 1 for a month or more ... to try out different vegetables.

You can also skip a rung ... for example, if you know nuts are a trigger food for you.

It's about increasing your net carbs (which not everyone is eager to do) and about testing foods.

Hard to do that in a week!

Also, you should only add one new food per week, and only 3 times a week.

The first rung is "more salad and other vegetables on the acceptable foods list". Starchy vegetables come in OWL Rung 8.

And 5 net carbs might not be a cup.

I agree with Mitzi---start reading ahead and get to know the Diet. The more you understand the Diet, the easier it is to follow.
