  • Romaine Lettuce Question

    Hi Everyone!

I bought two bags of leafy romaine lettuce and the entire bag contains 3 net carbs. Do I still need to measure it out or if I wanted to, consume the entire bag? I am a HUGE fan of salads and while I try to stick with veggies that are more filling, I love to have a nice big salad every now and again.

Are you planning on putting any other vegetables in your salad?

No, I usually just add chicken, ranch and parmesan cheese =)

        Re: Romaine Lettuce Question

Your lettuce called me - it's lonely. It wants to hang out with, like, a couple of cherry tomatoes and a few slices of mushroom and maybe some shreds of red cabbage and stuff. Maybe some diced yellow sweet pepper - but only if it doesn't get drunk and puke in romaine's car again. Cleaning that off of the floor mats was naaaa-stay.

(Go ahead and eat the bag - I won't tell on ya and romaine is decently packed with vitamins.)

So I am of the other opinion

I think you should stick to the rules. Not necessarily because eating many bags of romaine would make you gain weight but because on our journey through the programme we should learn how to exercise control. Looking at food and learning to limit carbs is part of what we need to do in my opinion.

So will eating 3 carbs worth of romain hurt you - probably not.
Will not learning that carbs is something you limit in volume hurt you - potentially.
Will adding a lot of salad dressing and Parmesan (which may contain starches) be a problem - definitely.

K, if you like veggies, why not move to OWL Rung 1 instead of extending your Induction period? OWL Rung 1 is just like Induction, but with 5 net carbs more from vegetables.

Georgiana has voiced my thinking Move to OWL rung one and a big bag of romaine lettuce is perfectly 'legal'!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                Re: Romaine Lettuce Question

A co-worker has a bag of romaine lettuce in the fridge. I took a look at it. It weighs 8 ounces and has 2.5 servings, each serving has 2 net carbs. So the entire 1/2 pound bag contains 5.0 carbs.

That's ALOT of lettuce, and I agree with liv--eating a 1/2 pound of lettuce because it is only 3 or 6 net carbs, might actually derail your long-term goal of learning how to eat proper portions.
