Re: Anyone see the new Atkins Commercials?

I remember the Atkins pizzas around 2004? It was the most vile thing known to man.

If I was new to Atkins and thought, "Wow, I can have this quick and easy Atkins-approved microwave pizza!" followed by, "Wow. The packaging tastes better than this rot," I'd run away screaming from what is supposed to be a wholesome food plan, complete with shopping the store perimeter and not the processed food aisles.

Atkins' original purpose of healthful eating has been marred by the quick buck and the unfortunate general lack of attention span of a public who sees a washed up actress from the early 90's sucking down a grainy shake from the 80's and thinking that's what a healthy, 2009 whole food plan is all about.

I don't recall the pizzas, but I do recall the Induction friendly Atkins "bread"---the texture looked like a sponge.

Anyhow, they are coming out with a "new" ATkins based on "sexy sweet science": if this frankenfood giveaway is any indication of what this "new" Atkins is.......I expect ADBB to be flooded with people who aren't losing weight, eventhough they are following the menues----just like what happened before.

I saw that! One of the reasons I tend to shy from the Atkins of today is because the entire point of the Atkins plans of old (2002 and former) is to suss out gluten and grain intolerances which plague more people than not; and here Atkins Corp has removed much of the point of the Atkins OWL rungs (to test for those food sensitivities such as soys and glutens) and said, "Here! Now you don't have to live without the same glutens and soy products that have been causing you gut leak, moobage and low seratonin all these years."

They're treating recovering crack addicts with more crack.

It's no wonder we're ingesting more anti depressants at an alarming rate, even while on 'Atkins'.

Until people realize that 'breads' and products derived largely from corn (including 4 of the 5 major sugar alcohols) and soy are not natural, healthy choices for human consumption, there's going to be trouble in River City.

They can take their Sweet Sexy Science and blow it out their pie holes.

Oh but cleo, don't you know?

Those pine nuts are in such "small" amounts they won't possibly interfer with weight loss. Afterall, how much damage will 1 carb of pine nuts or 1 carb of wheat flour do?

I guess the Sweet & Sexy Textbook of Science didn't mention that 0.1 gram of gluten can affect a person with celiac disease. And considering that 1 in about 200 Americans have celiac disease and probably higher because many are undiagnosed, that 1 carb of wheat flour can cause alot of damage!

But I'd better stop...otherwise, Santa might leave a lump of coal in my stocking for Christmas.

To boot, we all know that even for those without celiac, glutens tend to disrupt the blood/brain barrier for the absorption of good amino acids. Well, at least we thought we all knew. Someone needs to tell Mr. Sweet Sexy Science a thing or two.

Curiously, if you read the online program tutorials and forums, the instructions for doing Atkins are very much the same as DANDR (with some "new" changes). The recommendation for clean eating is there with the emphasis on whole, unprocessed foods.

Conversely, on the same site are the links for buying shakes and bars. The "reasons" for the promotion and sale of these products is that revenue is needed to fund continuing research and offset the costs of the website.

The problem I have with the whole thing is that ANA knows that most people will gloss over the tutorials at best and will prefer to consume the bars/shakes as they are easy. One line of bars is designed to mimic candy bars (complete with peanut butter cups). These are NOT products that anyone in good conscience would push on someone trying to develop healthy eating habits.

IMNSHO it boils down to corporate greed. If ANA developed some other lines that more closely resembled food one should be eating (like a line of nutritionally complete soups or such...hey, Medifast did it; why can't Atkins?) then maybe I would feel much better with ANA. Probably still wouldn't buy those in lieu of homemade, but at least it would send out a message closer to healthy eating. Chocolate covered bars and candy-like bars misses the point entirely. And for that I say, "Shame on you ANA."

In other words, ANA knows that fat people are more likely to eat and buy candy bars and junk food. So they gear their products to what fat people would most likely buy--not what people who have or want to have a healthy eating/llifestyle would most likely buy.

My question is if the bars and shakes that state that are allowed during induction aren't really allowed during induction, why does DANDR make reference to convenience foods in the induction chapter. He states that he vouches for any product carrying the Atkins brand name as being okay during induction, yet so many people on here say they are not on the acceptable food list and are therefore not allowed. I guess that is where I am getting confused. Dr. A says yes and so many people on here say no and that you need to read the book. Well I have and I just quoted what it says. I'm sorry...just confused on what's the big deal about these products. I don't want to rely on them, but have found them helpful in a hurry or on the go.

The products being sold today are NOT the same formulas as when Dr. Atkins was alive.

So it's hard to say that he would vouch for them now!
