However, you CAN lose weight without being hungry with low-fat just like low carb.
YOU CAN?? For *me*, lowfat ALWAYS made me hungry......and deprived.....and waiting for the next "fix", and STILL UNABLE TO LOSE.

I think in determining which weight loss program to follow, there is more to consider than the losing weight aspect.

For example, I used to get the "shakes" if I went too long without eating. On a low-fat diet, I ate more carbs which caused my blood sugar to be unstable. I lost weight, but I felt horrible. And, as anyone probably knows, when you get to the point of having the "shakes," you are prone to eat ANYTHING and EVERYthing in sight (been there, done that).

When I started eating low-carb - cutting out refined carbs especially - and eating more protein, my unstable blood sugar problem went away.

I have had a low-carb day today and feel better already. This only motivates me to keep on keeping on.

Sounds like your being lazy, Knowledge is power. So you mean to tell me that if your confronted about atkins that you will simply say you don't know and buckle under? Atkins doesn't need that its already a hot topic.

What are you gonna do if someone is curious about atkins and you have to say you don't know. Your on it and you don't know then you not only look lazy but you come off as an idiot as well.

You have done many other things in life with out books or instructions? I guess you started driving by hopping in the trunk.
I bet (if you have kids) a few of their toys have been put together wrong and you had to redo it. becuase you refused to read the instructions.

Same with atkins your gonna do it wrong becuase you didn't know and since you didn't know you didn't question it and so you didn't come here for advice. All becuase you didn't know you made a wrong turn somewhere. Why might one ask becuase it was too pathetic to read a book. Its all about commitment if you can't even commit to read a little book, how in the world are you gonna commit to changing your lifestyle's WOE.

There really is no excuse not to read the book, except your lazy and lacking in commitment. with that attitude I'm sorry to say your headed for failure.

I may sound harsh but its the truth if you can't go all the way, why even bother to leave it half-done You will just add it to the list of diets that didn't work for you. Do yourself a favor and read the book!
Hmm I guess you didn't get my point .. idiot (not to be harsh). I'll make it easier for you to understand. Do I need the book 100% in order to succeed in the atkins diet? Isn't their atleast a "small chance" that I will succeed in this diet without the book? Anyways I will buy the book even though "I am succeeding thus so far". Please do not assume when you do not know anything about me, I am not lazy nor do I lack in commitment. I have a great commitment in the Atkins diet and I motivate my self to do the right thing. Sorry for the attitude.. I do not like it when people force or say that I cannot succeed without this book. But it would be a differen't story if for example, I have a car but I didn't get the keys.

Progress During Atkins : (8th day) 7 pounds lost. I walk/jogg for 24 min, 6 days every week.

I hadn't read all the posts on this thread... but the last post caught my eye...

I think the book is important to have to fully understand what you are doing and why. Just my opinion.
Keep doing what you're doing & you'll keep getting what you're getting!!!

Sure, you can succeed on Atkins without following the book, but there is alot of science in the book that I found extremely helpful in understanding the metabolic advantage, etc. I guess I figure one can never be too informed!!

The book is extremely helpful even if you are familiar with how the plan works .. its a great motivator to stay on track! I think for the first few months, I re-read mine about a half-dozen times! Not to mention I took mine to the grocery store with me to make sure I had everything on the list!

I'm not sure how a person can follow the ATKINS' plan and not read the source for the plan. It's kind of like playing football without reading the rules. Yeah, you might be "successful" at doing whatever you are doing, but can you actually claim you are playing football? If you haven't read the rules, how do you know???

Are you reading info from the Atkins web site? I know there is a lot of material there and perhaps this is a "condensed" version of the book.

and the Atkins website is also marketing their junk food products all over that site too........ so beware.

Having read all our posts, why don't you try it for yourself? Advice from any of us mean nothing unless you've cheated once and feel the effects of it.

I allowed myself a pint of beer at what I thought to be my only opportunity as it was a special visit to a german restaurant. I also indulged in a piece of their famous pretzel breads, and you know what? I paid for it during the next few days. I had cravings that practically drove me crazy! Even having one piece of my favourite Lindt chocolate was enough to make me crave for the next day after that.

I definitely learnt my lesson... so why don't you try eating low carb vs low fat for a few days - see what effects it has on your weight, your body and how you feel! You may either learn a lesson or find something else that would surprise you.
