Re: Need some Non-Atkins suggestions!
Holly, first let me congratulate you on being a quitter! Here are my stats:
Six years, nine months, two weeks, four days, 21 hours, 45 minutes and 7 seconds. 49718 cigarettes not smoked, saving $8,800.26. Life saved: 24 weeks, 4 days, 15 hours, 10 minutes.
I did that paste with a program called SilkQuit. It's a great little piece of inspiration to look at my stats and see what I've accomplished. I would also highly recommend Freedom From Smoking Online. I worked through the modules and learned a LOT. Knowledge is power, and the more I learned the less I wanted to smoke. This program is part of the American Lung Association and is free of charge.
If you haven't taken nicotine in any form into your body for 72 hours then your body is free of cravings. If you use nicotine even in the losenge form then your body will crave more. As to the need to keep the hand and mouth busy once the physical cravings are past and all that's left is retraining my brain, I found that there was nothing better than a brisk walk or other cardio exercise to fill my need. It also helped to taste anything with a bite... cinnamon toothpicks especially the ones called Hot Licks were awesome... if it had to be food, spicy helped a lot. I don't know what rung you're on, but spicy sunflower seeds were my very good friend for a while there.
The fora at Freedom From Smoking Online are awesome for finding quit buddies, and posting there really reaffirmed my resolve to keep my quit.

Re: Need some Non-Atkins suggestions!
I did hand crafts like counted cross stitch, crochet or knitting during times when I would normally eat or smoke.
Congratulations on making these big changes in your life. I know it isn't easy.
When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.
Start:494/current:170
Began Atkins 1/4/2004

Re: Need some Non-Atkins suggestions!
Hey all, I just wanted to update you guys as to how the no smoking is going..........Well I have been smoke free for one whole week
It hasn't been easy on some days, others have been a breeze, I suppose it will be like this for the rest of my life
Exercise doens't really seem easier yet (yes I am impatient) however I have really enjoyed not having to stop and get cigs everyday or every other day, that has been awesome, now I only stop if I need gas! Woohoo!! But anyway I wanted to thank all of you for your support and all the wonderful ideas and suggestions on how to keep myself busy. My new fave thing is fiddliing with a cap to a pen. Don't know why but that really seems to help on those hard days! Thanks again all and I will keep ya updated on my progress
Oh and on an Atkins note (
) I have lost 65 lbs to date woohoo!!! My birthday is tomorrow and I can say that I am 65 lbs lighter AND smoke-free
