  • Splenda -what is a serving of loose splenda

The Atkins preference, however, is sucralose (Splenda), the only sweetener made from sugar. Sucralose is safe, noncaloric and does not raise blood sugar. It has been used in Canada for years, and the FDA recently approved it after reviewing more than 100 studies conducted over the past 20 years. Note that each packet of sugar substitute contains about 1 gram of carbohydrate, so don't forget to include the amount in your daily totals.

If one packet of Splenda = 1 carb, how do you measure and determine the serving size and amount of carbs in the "loose' Splenda that comes in the big bag? Thanks

Added by editing---to clarify my question------
    Thanks.
But I think I worded my question wrong. We are allowed 3 packets of Splenda per day, correct? Which it seems everyone calls that 1 serving.
So I guess my question should have been how does the loose Splenda work out to equalling 1 packet.
On the bag it says 1 serving = 1 tsp. But I don't think 1 serving of loose is the same as 1 packet.

So how many teaspoons = 1 packet. Because I have not seen anywhere saying how much loose splenda we are allowed each day.

That should be my question--how much loose Splenda from the bag are we allowed each day? I will edit my origianl question by adding this.

Re: Splenda -what is a serving of loose splenda

The packets of splenda contain different 'fillers' than the loose splenda so the carb counts for the same size serving would probably be different.

My jar of splenda lists the carbs per teaspoonful - 0.5 carbs, but different countries add different ingredients so you need to chack your packet information ot be accurate.

One packet of splenda is equivalent to 2 teaspoons of the loose splenda I think.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      >>how do you measure and determine the serving size and amount of carbs in the "loose' Splenda that comes in the big bag? >>

One cup of granular Splenda is 24 net carbs, so that's 1.5 net carbs per Tbs.

The "standard" serving size should be listed on the bag.

However, it's my thinking that even if you use less, it's still a "serving".

Is this Splenda or some other brand of sucralose?

If it's Splenda, then I imagine the fillers will be the same: maltodextrin in granular, and maltodextrin and dextrose in packets.

Check the container. The serving size should be listed with the nutritional info.

It's "servings" actually. Packet, granular, sugar in salad dressing ... it all counts.

              >>how much loose Splenda from the bag are we allowed each day?>>

              3 servings.

Re: Splenda -what is a serving of loose splenda

I found this chart which goes along with what Elizellen said...that 2 tsp=1 packet. And I thought I read the same here once before.

1 packet of Splenda is really sweet. If I put some in coffee at a restaurant, I use about 1/4 of the package (1/4 serving), but if I ever sweeten at home, I would need more than 1 tsp (which is listed as a serving) to get the same sweetness. I usually drink coffee without sugar, but when I have compared, that's what my results were.

Disclaimer: I don't know if this is correct I am just putting this out there.
                Splenda Conversion Chart

                1 C = 16 T = 48 tsp = 24 packets
                3/4 C = 12 T = 36 tsp = 18 packets
                1/2 C = 8 T = 24 tsp = 12 packets
                1/3 C = 5.3T = 16 tsp = 8 packets
                1/4 C = 4T = 12 tsp = 6 packets
                1/8 C = 2T = 6 tsp = 3 packets
                1T = 3 tsp = 1.5 packet

Re: Splenda -what is a serving of loose splenda

Curious so I got out my packages:

loose Splenda states serving size is 1 tsp (0.5g)

individual pkg Splenda states serving size is 1 packet
the packet states the net weight is 0.035 oz (1g)
I measured it & it is less than 1/2 tsp

So if you are looking for the maximum serving size go with the loose Splenda. Per Dr. A a serving is a serving & we only get 3 per day.

Forgot to add the packaging cracks me up as the math makes no sense. Did someone confuse the oz to g equation or am I confused???

Re: Splenda -what is a serving of loose splenda

I think the 2tsp of granulated to one 1 package is right.
The carb content of the package is a bout double to the granulated count and I think that is true for the sweetener factor as well.
So for a diabetic splenda tells us that he/she can have 8 tsp but only 4 packages (indicating that the potency of the packages are double to that of the granulated - I am guessing this is becasue of the dextrose)

My bag of granulated splenda does not give serving size as far as I can tell - it does list the nutrient conent for one teaspoon (and one teaspoon has 0.48 carbs)

There is no advantage in choosing the "maximum serving size", unless the recipe calls for a certain kind of Splenda. It's only the volume that is different, because maltodextrin has a smaller density than dextrose.

The serving size on a packet of Splenda says:

                        Serv.Size : 1 packet.
Meaning 1 packet is 1 serving.

According to Oz, the serving size on the box of loose splenda is 1 teaspoon.

Therefore, 1 packet of splenda is 1 serving and 1 teaspoon of loose splenda is 1 serving.

The sweetening power of the Splenda types (the table mission to lose posted) is non-contributory to the serving size amounts.

Since we are limited to 3 servings/packets of sweeteners daily, then if your sweetener had a serving size of 1 gallon, you could have 3 gallons of the sweetener without going over the 3 daily limit.

So to answer your question of "how much loose Splenda from the bag are we allowed each day? " , you are allowed 3 servings---according to what the packaging states is 1 serving---of it.
