    Re: Losing hair

About 8 years ago, I had lost about 20# in a short time, and my hair fell out like crazy!

Since I have been following the Atkins WOE,(since August), I have not experienced any of that. In fact my hair is healthier than it has been for years. It was thinning out a bit for the past years, and it is fuller again. My hairdresser feels it is in healthier condition, too. Less dry, and good body to it.

I really like the way my hair looks and feels.

Biotin, 2000 mgs daily. Very helpful!
Also, Evening Primrose Oil can help.

As others have said, this happens when you diet very successfully.

As for the use of supplements: I took everything (I mean it) by the handful, and still my hair fell out. There must be something to the post a few back which stated this had to do with new hair getting ready to push out the old, with the effect visible a few months later, because I think I was over the diet by that point.

Does it grow back? I certainly hope so!

An alternative is to go slow, but I realise that may not always be possible or desirable.

See a dermatologist, please! He will order blood panels which can greatly help in figuring out what is going on to cause it, and solutions to your problem.

I have been losing hair for about a year, I recently decided that this was a real problem and not a temporary thing. I have been anemic for years and for years have needed to take iron supplements.

As it turns out, anemia (I know this is misspelled) can very often cause hair loss. And you know what? Iron supplements can ALSO cause hair loss!! I had a double whammy.

I have been told to use a drug that might help over time and if it doesn't, then he told me there are other options I can turn to that he will talk about if necessary - that hair loss can actually be often reversed once the cause is known, but usually at least halted, even genetically programmed hair loss.

So, see dermatologist and make sure you know what the problem is because it's usually something that can be treated once the cause is discovered - best wishes!

            Re: Losing hair

Funny (funny - odd, not funny - haha), I just learned a decrease in thyroid activity can cause hair loss. Mix that with a change in diet which might be low in the essential nutrients to keep the thyroid pumping, might be a reason to check with the doc.
