  • What will you NOT miss?

What will you not miss once your reach your goal? Each and eveyone of us has at least one thing we will not miss or do not about being overweight.
What changes have you noticed already? And I'm sure we all have seen changes no matter what phase we are in. I enjoy reading all the post throughout this board and thought it would be nice if there was one post where everyone could share the answers to these two questions.

Will NOT miss: Lectures to loose weight and everyones bad advise on how to get the pounds off!

Changes: Self esteem has gone up, more confident, better fitting clothes and last but not least I actually feel healthy.

Re: What will you NOT miss?

I will not miss: Not being able to control my food consumption. (That was caused by me eating too much sugars)
Changes : I like having lost weight. I feel more confident where I am. I like being control of what I eat rather than it being in control of me. I have started to exercise and to my surprise I really like it. I have muscles and flexibility and stamina now.

Thanks for the thread livingontheedgell. I do agree about the advice. Boy there are many diet experts out there. I just hated the advice "just eat less" Like I did not think of that one myself. What do they think - overweight people are stupid.

I DON'T miss feeling matronly. I DON'T miss always hating the way I looked. I DON'T miss trying to find clothes that fit and are flattering.

Now, I can walk into a store and pick up a size 6 with confidence! Not bad for this 52-yr old soon-to-be granny! I feel like I'm 16 again.

Re: What will you NOT miss?

              I will not miss...

...having to take several minutes to catch my breath after climbing a flight of stairs
...stuffing myself into auditorium and airplane seating, embarrassed that my body spills over into the seats on either side of me
...having to pass on enjoying rides at the fair either because I can't fit the seat or I'm nervous that the ride won't support my weight
...having to put an outfit back in the closet or drawer because it was suddenly too small to wear anymore
...waking up in the middle of the night choking due to acid reflux
...suffering that afternoon post-carb-heavy-lunch sleepiness that comes and makes me feel like I could pass out in the middle of giving a lesson
...having to pass on activities like dancing or bowling or anything involving getting up in front of a crowd because I'm ashamed of my appearance
...hearing my doctor say with furrowed brow, "about your weight..."

You get the picture. Most of what I love about this WOL is what is not in my life anymore or soon won't be. Great thread. *high five*

Re: What will you NOT miss?

                I will not miss:

                - Having to use baby powder for my skin folds (I have that super awesome pooch that comes after having kids - it can get sweaty in there, and I can get yeast infections...NOT nice)
                - Feeling like an outsider when I take the kids to and from school (I always feel like I don't measure up to the other parents, they are all very stylish and put together, and I'm just this dumpy fat Mom)
                - Shopping at the plus sized store - I'm still in there, but I won't miss it once I'm done with it.
                - Sitting at home at night stuffing my face with whatever junk is available and watching television mindlessly

                Changes I've seen:

                - So far I've lost 64 lbs & have had to give away an entire wardrobe of clothes already
                - Just today I was looking in the mirror and noticed that from just above my chest (like my upper chest, collarbone & neck area) look MUCH slimmer. I've almost gotten rid of the fat hump on the back of my neck.
                - My calves are looking much slimmer
                - I'm able to squeeze behind people at the dinner table when trying to get to my seat
                - My engagement ring is too big to wear anymore, and my wedding band is getting much looser. I will get them re-sized once I maintain for at least a year.
                - I'm actually ENJOYING seeing pictures of myself again - I'm not cringeing after a photo has been taken and I get to take a peek, they aren't as horrible as they used to be because my face isn't so puffy and I'm taking up 64 lbs less room.
                - I can run faster then my 7 year old son. I like that one It helps that he stinks at running though, lol.

That's all I can think of for now - love the topic Keep 'em coming!!

Re: What will you NOT miss?

I will not miss stretchy, elastic waist pants that look awful on anyone.
I will not miss people staring and making comments that I can hear, damnit.
I will not miss worrying about fitting in chairs... or breaking them.
I will not miss feeling my heart pound after walking anywhere.
I will not miss feeling too scared and self-conscious to do just about anything.

Changes. Not many yet, but ready to embrace them big time.

Re: What will you NOT miss?

I will not miss the horrible feelings I felt when I would go shopping for clothes.

The changes I've noticed so far have been that I don't feel tired after eating a full meal. My clothes feel looser and my skin looks better.

Re: What will you NOT miss?

                      I will not miss...

                      - my husband's hurtful comments about my weight.
                      - walking with my head down so I won't see people's eyes judging me.
                      - wearing sweat pants every day!
                      - hating the mall because there is nothing I can buy there

                      Changes I have noticed

                      - went from a size 24 to an 18
                      - I have a neck
                      - I have gained enough confidence to file for divorce ( yay!!)
                      - I now know that I can do anything I set my mind to.
                      highest 230 ---- started atkins------current 175 lbs
                      July 2009 ---------12/20/2009 ---------03/18/2010
                      <------------------>

I started atkins in late november but every other week just sort of fell off the wagon and was not working out..late december I started to really follow it and added the gym from november to december I only lost like 7 lbs not following it right..from december to march 18 I lost 50 lbs give or take depending what mood my scale is on lol.

Re: What will you NOT miss?

                        I will NOT miss:

-Being a size 20. Enough said!

-Feeling disgusted with myself after eating way too much sugar or fast food. Carb crashes. That sleepy, comatose feeling after dinner...which was then followed by an urgent "need" for dessert! Also, feeling like I was terribly unhealthy, but also thinking that there was no real way out.

-Shopping at Lane Bryant, Old Navy plus sizes, Maurice's plus sizes, etc.

                        -Having to wear Spanx

-The obvious looks of disbelief when shopping with my husband...the "you can't possibly fit into our clothes, so what are you doing here?" look.

                        Changes:

-Being a size 14 (everywhere except my chest, which hasn't gotten the memo yet), which means being TOO SMALL for Lane Bryant. Unfortunately, it also means being just slightly too big in the chest for some designers' 14s, but I'm getting CLOSE! It may seem shallow to some, or frivolous, but being able to actually wear gorgeous on-trend designer clothes (and NOT special plus-size ranges) is one of my goals/desires. Shopping in regular stores for regular clothes is something I haven't been able to do since high school...it is a new pleasure.

-With the above...having to replace most of my wardrobe because I was swimming in it!

-Feeling healthy every day, being energized, being glad to be alive! Knowing that I am reducing my risks of the diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure problems that have plagued my family for generations.

-Making good food choices even if I'm out and about, knowing that I am in control of what goes into my body. Setting an example for others with the way I eat. Even my husband, although he is not a low-carber, is following my example and eating many more vegetables, drinking less soda, etc.

-MANY compliments about how I look. Again, this might be shallow or vain. But it's encouraging! Although it does make me wonder how fat I looked before...

                        -Throwing those Spanx AWAY!

This is a great thread...looking forward to more responses!
