  • Does Anyone Ever Have Nightmares About Cheating?

I had this strange dream last night! I went to the grocery store to buy all my Atkins-friendly food, and some woman tempted me with a Snickers bar... and I ATE IT!!!

I felt so horrible, like I had totally derailed my entire life. The guilt was terrible! I felt like I would never, ever find the discipline to stick with this and become healthy!

Then I woke up and breathed a HUGE sigh of relief.

yep cheating on your atkins is just like any other issue you can have nightmares about.

I used to have a weird dream about becoming a child again and eating all the thanksgiving marshmellows off the yams while my adult voice yelled you are cheating don't eat it.

I haven't had those dreams in a few months - but yea, at the beginning of my journey it was like every other night I was having those nightmares. I just had no self-control in them.

Now I know what to eat when I'm feeling like I need a sugary snack. It COMPLETELY satisfies me, and I no longer have scary sabotage dreams anymore.

Re: Does Anyone Ever Have Nightmares About Cheating?

I had a very strange dream recently that one of my friends put a packet of sugar in my drink as a joke. I would assume this is somewhat normal considering that we think about the diet we're on multiple times every day.

I think the dream was a result of really wanting chocolate last night. I didn't crave it, I just wanted it. DH and I saw a commercial on TV for a certain type of chocolate candy, and it made me want some!

This is why DVR is good - skipping through commercials!

Re: Does Anyone Ever Have Nightmares About Cheating?

Never had 'em. Though I try to be cavalier about cheating and don't get worked up about it. I try to not do it, but its happened a couple times(specifically over the Christmas holiday) and I just take it as a learning experience and flush it. I don't really think about food much anymore, I equate it to putting gas in the car. I just gotta make sure I put the right fuel in.

Note to add, the reason I'm so easy going about cheating its easier for me to get back on plan if it happens, rather than fall into a deep spiral about how I messed up and I'll never recover. Kind of like the old analogy about how if you fall off a horse, you just get up and get right back on.

Re: Does Anyone Ever Have Nightmares About Cheating?

I experienced this, I had a nightmare 2 or 3 weeks in that i went to some kind of fair and drank giant glasses of lemonade and was eating BBQ ribs smothered with sauce.

woke up panic'd and distraught... lol.

i got on my laptop right away and told my friend who is 15lbs from goal on low carb, he said he used to have them regularly too.

                our brains are scary.

after you've had one of these dreams (it is so real) you can identify with people who have had near death experiences where they thought they went to "the other side" and came back

my friend quit smoking something like 10 years ago and in his dreams he's often smoking _still_

I not only have the dreams, I can taste the things I eat in them. I wake up feeling guilty and have to remember I did not cheat.
I did the same thing when I quit smoking. I only have those dreams once in a great while. Hopefully the sugar dreams will taper off too.
                      Good thread!
