Re: ?????????
Are you for real? This is an Atkins board. It's what we have chosen to do and it works. You can lose weight on any diet and gain it back if you go back to your old bad habits.Originally posted by jonnyi heard you put the weight back on if you get off atkins. would this be the case if you ate healthy (not atkins) and exercise regulary
Atkins IS healthy and the food is fantastic. Try it ..... you'll like it! :yes
I apologize if I'm missreading your posts today.

I posted the same exact topic about a couple of days ago. yes you may gain the weight back but that is the same as any diet.
they specifically target this one because it is so popular and effective in a short time span.
as you move up through levels of owl you will find yourself eating much more variety and slimmer._r0mel_

of course you will put the weight on if you "get off" Atkins.
Why would you want to anyway? Trust me, I cheated on some carbs, and I paid for it by feeling bloated, sluggish, sleepy even though I only ate half cup of rice noodles. Plus, every time I tasted something with sugar in it, it feels disgustingly sweet (even though the others can't taste it). Somehow, after you've been on Atkins for a while, and even if you do try and go back to your refined carbs and sugars, i think you, your tastebuds or your body will hate it.30yo F 5'5 (166cm)

If you eat Atkins through the 4 stages - induction, ongoing weightloss, premaintenance and maintenance you will find you are 'eating healthy' anyway :yikes
There is nothing unhealthy about eating most things in moderation, plenty of veggies and fruit but not eating overprocessed junk food and refined sugar is there?
In fact I bet all nutritonists would agree that the maintenance stage of Atkins is to be recommended if they weren't told the 'A' word but just given a list of allowed food!!Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

1. "eat healthy" Whos version of eat healthy? Would this be the same version of eating healthy that made you need to do something about your weight? If you didn't eat "healthy" and ate candy and junk food see number 2.
2. You lose weight from the candy and junk and decide to lose it. the carbs of sugar and refined grains and frankenfoods have made you need to lose weight. You go back to eating "healthy" once you lost weight by adding back the things that you used to eat only the things have the same carbs. (sugars, refined grains and frankenfood) yes instead of candy bars you have say a store bought Tuna sandwhich for instance you have your white bread with enriched white flour, theres usually sugar in the tuna salad. and you top it off with maybe some "healthy" baked lays or something with less fat and less calories. Maybe a diet coke or diet drink with aspartame. now you look at it anyway you want to but you just ate the same carbs, sugars, and frankenfoods as you did before in a different form all under the name of "health foods". True maybe not as much but what happens when your still hungry you aim for a "healthy snack" theres another does of the same stuff and chances are it will be a franken food with hidden sugars this time.
The reason you lose weight and keep it off on atkins (you know the dreaded deadly A word) is you cut out the processed foods, sugars, and refined carbs. You go back to eating whole foods natural foods the way we used to eat before we discovered we could process these foods if we added a touch of this carb and that carb and a pinch of sugar ( a pinch being roughly a cup). Your body starts to burn fat instead of buring Carbs. Now you turn on this fat burning engine by killing its alternative fuel source the carbs and you lose weight. Why? Becuase it needed energy and it took it from where it could only get it. Now lets say you were a good atkineer and you lost the wieght and decided to go back to eating "healthy" (see number 2 again if you forgot) You eat these "healthy foods" and start bombing your system with carbs it sees those carbs and thinks I need to burn those carbs and store fat becuase I have to survive. You shut off the fat burning engine to store fat for periods when carbs are limited and turn on the carb burning engine. Now your eating "healthy" you just lost weight that you needed to and your good to go, well you just treated atkins like a yo-yo diet. You will slowly gain it all back under the false pretence of "eating healthy"
Its like turning on a light with a switch and leaving it on for hours and then turning it off expecting the light to stay on. Thinking well I had it on it worked but now I dont want the switch to be in the "on" postion but I still want it to be lit up. It don't work that way chief. I know thats not a very enlighting analogy but its one that brightened my way of thinking. ( no pun intended honestly :guns )

Vegetables are a required part of the Atkins diet/WoE/WoL. So if you don't eat vegetables as recommended by Dr. Atkins, I doubt you'd be healthy even with regular exercise....would this be the case if you ate healthy (not atkins) and exercise regularyRobbie T., 240/180/160. 41yr Male, Height 5'9"
