My wife came home with two boxes of "Low Carb" popsicles. She thought they would make a nice treat for the end of each week when I weigh in. One is the Bryer's Carb Smart and the other is made by Chrystal Light. Are these safe or should I keep them in the freezer until I hit a higher rung? If they are allowed, I will limit myself to only one per week anyway.

Re: Food Question
The iffy thing about most low-carb treats like that is the use of sugar alcohols in the product, which may stall weight loss. The CarbSmart bars contain milk, cocoa and possibly nuts (depending on the item), so it would be included in Rung 3 if you so choose. The Crystal Light item probably contains Aspartame, use of which is discouraged in DANDR 2002.
Personally, I think the CarbSmart bars are tasty, but I've usually got better things to put in my stomach than junk food that's so nutritionally void (my cheesecake is awesome *and* more nutritious). Also, depending on your relationship with food, if a taste may lead to a binge, you should proceed with caution.

Re: Food Question
Good advice
I know she was just trying to do something nice. That's why I inquired before eating any of them. I think I will just let them sit in the freezer for awhile or maybe offer them to guest when they come over. Thanks!

Re: Food Question
I know... that's what my mom was doing when I visited this winter break. She was asking me every day if I want her to make some (low carb) dessert for me... although there was usually at least one in the fridge.Originally posted by livinontheedgell View PostI know she was just trying to do something nice.

I think that's a very safe and wise decision on your part.Originally posted by livinontheedgell View PostGood advice

I'm with Shrew on this...I know for me, with the kind of relationship I have had with food....treats have a tendency to throw me for a loop and lead me to binge.
The sugar alcohols that are generally found in these types of "low carb" treats can cause challenges.
Well done on your part and congratulations on making a safe and healthy decision...you won't regret it!!!!

All the best,
Sarina

I must have a venus fly trap for a colon, because that has never been an issue for me. Mr. Shrew, however, is a CYP member in good standing!Originally posted by Georgiana View PostYou guys are missing the chance to become members of the CYP club.
