  • Is my body saying No Owl?

    Hello all

    I started Owl about 4 days ago and only increase a cup of veggies to my diet well I gained 5 lbs! and for the past two days I am out of ketosis..what the heck! this morning I started on induction again because I am not sure if moving to owl is good for me yet? or is this normal?
    highest 230 ---- started atkins------current 175 lbs
    July 2009 ---------12/20/2009 ---------03/18/2010

    I started atkins in late november but every other week just sort of fell off the wagon and was not working out..late december I started to really follow it and added the gym from november to december I only lost like 7 lbs not following it right..from december to march 18 I lost 50 lbs give or take depending what mood my scale is on lol.

    You didn't gain 5 lbs of fat eating a cup of vegetables.

    What veggies did you add? Were these vegetables you ate during Induction?

    Are you around TOM?

    Did you eat more salt?

    Did you drink less water?

    Did you change your exercise routine?

      Ketostix are not reliable. Just because you don't have (enough) excess acetoacetate to excrete in urine, it does not mean your body is not burning primarily fat for fuel... which is Dr. Atkins' definition for ketosis.

        You might want to post what you ate, but it's gotta be water weight, so did you drink all your water? Did you overdue on sodium.

          And in OWL Rung 1 we increase our carb level in 5 net carb increments (with the exception of nuts), not by cups.

            I don't eat a lot of different veggies so I just increase 1 cup of cauliflower which is about 5 carbs or so. Not on TOM, have not added nothing else. Nothing new except the extra cauliflower..gym still an hour a day, trying to drink as much water as possible but that still a struggle ..going thru a divorce stress maybe? lol

              Did you eat cauliflower on Induction?

              It's not 5 net carbs. Are you counting net carbs?

                Yes, I ate it on induction..should I tried something new? Net carbs I thought I that fitday thing was giving me the net carbs is it not? freak.

                  If you ate it on Induction, it should not be a problem.

                  But vary your vegetables... don't eat the same thing over and over.

                  My advice is to keep going with OWL. That cup of cauliflower didn't make you gain 4 lbs.

                  And definitely drink more water... otherwise you'll retain water... which will show on the scale.

                  Nope. FitDay shows total carbs and dietary fiber. You find net carbs by subtracting the grams of dietary fiber from the total carbs.

                    It does not give netcarbs - you need to deduct those yourself but it is easy.
                    How long had you been on induction when you added that extra carb?

                    I would try again. A 5 pound just could mean some fluid imbalance and if so that should come off again.

                      And this folks, is why we don't live on the scale. Measure yourself.
