  • Anti-inflammatory drugs

I have now had the chance to read more of the threads on the site and wanted to ask other members about the effects of taking anti-inflammatory drugs. I did very well in the first week but in the second I put 2lbs back on. It was in the second week that I had to take the drugs and I wondered if anyone else had experienced similar problems whilst taking these drugs?

I also take Glucosamine Sulphate for my knees and, again, the same question-has anyone experienced problems with this supplement?

Finally if you have not read it can I recommend you take a look at the article named "why the scales can lie" by Perry. I found it fascinating and it gave me some piece of mind.

Good luck to everyone and I look forward to receiving replies.

    Re: Anti-inflammatory drugs

I am not sure if anti-inflammatory drugs will affect your losing, but will probably be able to tell you from my own experience in a couple of days as I am laid up with a bad back and on them myself too!

You are right - that post from Perry is a good one to read if you are getting hung up on the scales
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I take a lot of of Ibuprofin (approx 2000mg/day) for my degenerative bone disease and I have still lost weight. Not sure if I'd be losing more if I wasn't taking them, but I've tried to decrease the amounts and I am just too uncomfortable.

Just to be clear I actually meant anti-inflammatory drugs designed to treat arthritis. In the good book Dr Atkins does say that type of drug can stall weight loss. This week I have stopped taking the drugs and am taking MSM as recommended plus a good multivitamin and L Carnitine. I also do 3x 30 min swim sessions per week-and I mean swimming non stop for the 30 mins. I wait with anticipation until Friday morning when I will weigh myself again.

Thanks to all for replies and good luck.

Did you stop a prescribed medication without the knowledge of your physician?

Yes I did but there was only a weeks worth of tablets left and the pain had subsided.

              Re: Anti-inflammatory drugs

I take a daily anti-inflammatory for my arthritis (prescription) and I still lose weight. Slowly, but I have a number of health conditions and its hard to pinpoint what conditions/medications might make my weight loss slow. The best I can do is make sure I'm doing all the right things (not cheating, eating below my CCLL, exercising, water, enough veggies and fat, etc.) and keep at it.

Medications can alter your weight, especially if you do not take them regularly.

Additionally if you are in pain and/or have swelling, your body may retain water.

              Goal #1: 247 - 2nd 10% (59lbs, 247, also 100 lbs total loss) - Met 1/4/10!!!
              Goal #2: 241 - Halfway to goal! (106 lbs lost) - Met 2/21/10!!!

              Goal #3: 222 - 3rd 10% - Lowest Atkins weight
              Goal #4: 210 - Still on track!
              Goal #5: 200/199 - 4th 10% - One-derland! End year goal!
