My advice: don't nibble. Eat food at meals. Nibbling makes people overweight. (Well it did with me anyways)

I agree with Liv. I am better sticking to 3 meals a day without snacking. Some people, perhaps those with higher metabolism, seems to function better on 5 or 6 small meals a day. Have you tried that?

Welcome! and good luck. We all seem to find our way and what works best for our bodies.

Re: on induction but what can

          Hi

I too have just started the induction I am one week in. Nibbles and snacking is a habit you could do with trying to break if you can. That's what Atkins is about, breaking addictions, if i can give up my 8 cans a day Pepsi max habit can you give up your nibbles?

TBH what it comes down to is how committed you are to losing weight?

If you feel like a snack have a bottle of water then see if you still want one.

You could have some cold sliced chicken in the fridge to grab.

I have found though that after a few days if your drinking plenty your appetite stabilizes, its just getting used to it.

          HTH
          Kind regards

Celery and sweet pepper sticks with a little fat such as cream cheese or a sour cream dip are also good, especially if you need help getting your veggies in. (Be sure to count them towards your 3 cups during induction.)

I think people who have problems with insulin are especially prone to snacking. A lot of attention has been given to high glycemic index foods that can cause an insulin spike, but I think (haven't looked for any studies to back me up) that there can be a secondary insulin spike as the complex carbs are digested - hence the need for a snack. When you ditch the carbs, you may find you no longer need a snack. On the other hand, Dr. Atkins said some people control their insulin much better on 5 or 6 small meals a day.

When I massively get the "munchies" I will take a slice of Organic turkey breast and wrap it around a dill pickle. It seems to help me.

5 or 6 smaller meals a day actually helps your metabolism stay constant and not go through those peaks and valleys. But its up to the user to decide what is best for them.

Re: on induction but what can

How frequently we eat is such an individual thing that we all have to find what works for us.

At present I am at the 'having to make sure I eat enough food' stage, as I am inactive, so I have to plan my foods carefully to make sure I am getting enough nutrition into me. Some of my pills have to be taken with food so that gives me my eating schedule.

However normally I seem only to need 3 meals a day, so do not snack at all. But they are not small meals

But when I started on Atkins I seemed to be constantly hungry, and so I planned to have small fat/protein snacks available for when the munchies struck. For a long time I needed to have an evening snack and found that chopped-up celery sticks mixed with a couple of spoonfuls of mayonnaise did the trick.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I eat Bicks dill pickles, I don't eat alot of them because of the salt in them, but they don't have sugar, perhaps your thinking of the sweet pickles?

You should always read the list of ingredients.

I have tried making my own mayo but ended up throwing it away as it was vile so I buy it instead. I have found 2 brands in England with no sugar in them, Delouis fils (Waitrose) and Tracklements (www.tracklements.co.uk for stockists or order direct). They are expensive compared to other brands which have a small amount of sugar in them.
Many people use Hellman's fullfat mayo which has 1.5 grams of carbs per 108 mls, making it about 0.21 carbs per tablespoonful.

As to how much to eat, well we are supposed to get most of our 'up to 20 net carbs' from our veggies on induction, so maybe a few tablespoons of mayo would be fine.

Re: on induction but what can

This time through induction the first week I pretty much ate when I was hungry. I kept a large plastic bowl of salad with a lid in the fridge for quick salads. As to snacks, my favorites were celery sticks with cream cheese, cheese "crackers" made my dividing a slice of American cheese into squares and microwaving it crisp, cold sliced roast beef sprinkled with garlic powder and drizzled with olive oil, slices of turkey smeared with cream cheese and rolled up around a pickle spear or avocado or olives, pork rinds, deviled eggs, cole slaw made with shredded cabbage and mayo... as to snacks in my purse or desk at work I'd carry string cheese, slimjims or beef jerky.

Funny thing was by the second week my cravings were dissipating. I weaned myself off the snacks and realized that I took a LOT of comfort knowing food was within reach at any moment of the day. Today I don't need such a crutch as much as I used to, but it's taken a long time and a lot of searching within to get there.
