  • tryng not t give up but i have lost nothing in months

been on extended induction nearly 3 months. lost a few lbs at first but ained them all back pus some while still in ketosis. it is hard to have will power when you are getting no results. i am deeply depressed and feel utterly defeated.i'm drinking my watter, taking my vitamins, counting my carbs, excersising.......my clothes are not looser. i am going to the zillionth endocrinologist of my life next week, but not expecting much. no doc has been able to help me yet.

my next option wuld be lap band suregery but i'm not quite at enough yet o qualify.
i'm 25 years old, mom of two, ready to do this once and for all!
note: i am breast-feeding, though my baby is nearly weaned, eating most solid food now. i am doing this diet with the knowledge, approval, and at the suggestion of my doctor and having done my homework. i will not discuss the matter in any of my posts. please don't bring it up.

Hang in there. It's possible that the hormone changes that go along with breast feeding have kept your metabolism low - gotta have enough food for the baby right? Maybe when he/she is totally weaned things will be different.

she is almost weaned already, feeding only at night. besides, almost everyone i know who nursed found te nursing itself melted the pounds off on it own. i don't ave the will power to continue with zero results. nt just slow, but nothing at all.

are you on any medications? Thought about moving up the rungs of the ladder? I have seen alot of people jump start just moving out of induction and into OWL. Never give up!!!

i am on thyroid medicatin, adderal for my ADD and birth control which i know can slow things down.

m considering trying the fat fast as ne last ditch effort, but i'm afraid its too rigid for me to stick to.

il admit the only people iv really seen that even while on atkins still had a hard time loseing weight was people with thyroid problems

maybe try adjusting your thriod meds till one starts working and helping you get weight loss

and maybe stop takeing adderal and birth control that may help with your weight loss big time or if its hard to stop takeing them try atleast for one week not takeing them and then see the weight loss results and get your motivation back then when your motivation is back you will know the diet works and it had alot to do with the meds causeing the problem

but really thyroid problems and your meds would make it extremely difficult for anyone to lose weight with that

also vitamins can cause problems makeing you retain water and such and also be very careful what vitamins you take

have you been to the thyroid thread and found any help? Thyroid - Atkins Diet. I agree with Bren, it's time to move to OWL -- I stopped loosing after a short time on extended induction and had no idea why - it was suggested I move to OWL Rung 1 and add 5 additional net carbs of veggies a day -- that did the trick....I started loosing again.

Re: tryng not t give up but i have lost nothing in months

I would bet a million dollars that your problem is a combination of being on induction AND nursing.

While I was breastfeeding my daughter, I could. not. lose. weight. no matter WHAT I did. Granted, I was on domperidone to keep my prolactin levels high (due to low milk supply) but no matter how healthy I ate, and how much I exercised, the scale would not budge - unless it was going up!!!

I honestly think the best thing you can do for your weight loss is to start moving onto OWL. Induction essentially starves your body of carbuhydrates, forcing it into ketosis. This is perfectly fine for most people, but while you are breastfeeding, your body knows that its job right now is to feed and nourish your baby.

As long as your body feels like it isn't getting enough of something, it will hang on to every ounce of fat it can.

If I were you, I would start adding more veggies as per OWL. When your baby is weaned, you can go back and do induction again if you want.

Elevated prolactin levels make weight loss very difficult. Some women lose a lot, but if their body feels that it is getting the right amount of fat/protein/carbs every day, it has no reason *not* to let go of the weight.

My personal trainer has the same problem - she works out 3 hours a day and still can't lose weight because she's still breastfeeding.

As soon as my daughter weaned completely, the weight started melting off. I lost 14 lbs in 2 weeks - and this was BEFORE starting Atkins.

Doing the fat fast while nursing will not help - I can guarantee that. Your body will not allow you to lose weight as long as it knows that there is a baby dependent on you for nourishment.

                Please don't give up!

i cannot go off my adderal. i need it to think clearly. add is no joke for an adult trying to manage a househld.
ii need the BC cuz can't really afford t get pregnant ow. thyroid i have been to so many doctors and naturalists, and holistic docs and endocrinologists and they all make changes to my meds and doses and switch my supplements and change my diet each say the guy before was clueless and i have only gotten worse.i know ,my thyrid is ot of whac ut ti have all but given up hope of getting t fixed. no adjustment yet in my fe has made any improvement. i have steadily deteriorated. i am trying a new doc in 2 weeks an got the blood work recommended by stop the madness, and i hope it shows something cuz i'm desperate.

i am so confused by all the conflicting advice from all these different doctos of the last decade. and down any thousands of dollars. i was told i need vitamin c, vitamin Bs, vitamin d, carnatine, thyanine, coq-10,zinc, iron, folic acid, olive leaf extract, green tea, probiotics, b12, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, milk thistle, selenium, iodine, potassium, dha, dhea, a any other things i can't properly pronounce....i have a whole kitchen cabinet just dedicated to the supplements i was told to take. thousands f dollars worth. but taking everything i need makes me nauseous from all the pills and trying to remember which pill to take at what time of day in what dose, which with food, which on an empty stomach, which can be taken together and which not, it's ike a second job, and it has done me no good. I'm still going bald and still can't lose weight. i've given up taking most of these except c, d, fish oils and selenium.

have you been to the stop the madness site? it even lists great thyroid docs near where you are that you could try getting in to see to get your thyroid levels fixed. Since every cell in the body needs thyroid hormons for metabolism until you get your levels fixed you will have a very hard time shedding any weight. I know every time my levels got low I stalled out during my weight loss.

is the new doc one of the ones listed on that site? several of the medical schools in NYC are listed like Columbia and Cedar Sini. could you make your appointment with one of their endocrinologists?

you don't need all them vitamins if your eating properly the thing is no one eats properly cause the food is just not avalible to us

i too can't eat any vitamins because they upset my body i gained about 5 pounds of water last time i took vitamins

however after looking at these vitamins they look very promiseing

but il admit if even these vitamins upset my body then i would give up but i don't see how they could

anyways id think the best foods would be all 100% organic animals and bone marrow and organs and fat and meat but thats not avalieble to us

                          anyways i agree with BekkiH

wait untill your baby is done breast feeding at the age of 2 years and 5 months or so

and after that you can try loseing weight with fat fast and such

cause really thyriod, hormones, nurseing, meds all these things make it very hard to lose weight! and your not alone check the thyriod forum like imagood1 said

                          Thyroid - Atkins Diet

you can see people with thyroid problems have an extremely hard time loseing weight i read that some have to get the perfect thyriod med balance before they start loseing weight

theres been some people on other sites who wrote that it was impossible for people with thyroid problems to lose weight however there has been people on the atkins diet that had thyroid problems and still lost weight proving them wrong

Everyone being different, I would have to say YMMV (your mileage may vary), based upon medications being taken, eating habits, genetics, etc.

I lost 40 pounds while nursing my now-teen daughter over 18 months (23 baby weight, 17 additional) and lost 35 pounds while nursing daughter #2 over 4 months (30 baby weight, 5 additional), though I also nursed her over 18 months.
