  • First time Atkins-er :D

Hello, My name is Cameron I'm a 17 year old junior in highschool trying to get to the weight of 160 for sports next year. I have been on the atkins diet since last monday I started at 205 and I am currently 198 which I'm thrilled about because I'm losing over a pound a day =]. Basically I started running about 3-4 miles every day after school with the help of 5 hour energy and I feel great =]. But my dad is also on this diet he has been for about three months and in the first two months he lost 30 pounds. My dad doesn't work out but he stopped losing weight after that 30 pounds. So my question is will it be possible for me to get to 160 without stopping like he did? And also I need some help with foods and drinks that I can consume within this diet since sugar and carbs are no longer possible. Thank you =]

It is definitely possible for you to hit your goal of 160...and who knows, once you get their, you may re-evaluate and decide you want to lose a bit more. 160 is a great goal weight though Just remember - you are not your father. You are your own person, and as long as you follow this way of eating (WOE), you will succeed.

Have you read the book? There are some great links on here as well, but the book is what you need to have so you know what you can consume, and how to progress through the different levels.

The copy we go by here on the Atkins Diet Bulletin Board (ADBB) is the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. I went out and got mine the day I signed up for this board, and it was also the day I started this journey.

You are very smart to get your weight under control while you are young and don't have as much to lose.

Congratulations on your 7 lbs loss, and I hope you continue coming back to read and post because this place is a wealth of information - and I find the people here are very motivating, and will tell you like it is. No pussy footing around here, lol.

    Mini Goals:
    Goal 1 - 10% (September 13th, 2009)
    Goal 2 - Pre-Pregnancy Weight with 2nd Child (September 27th, 2009)
    Goal 3 - 50 lbs down (December 1st, 2009)
    Goal 4 - Highest Pregnancy Weight with 1st right before c-section (February 20, 2010)
Goal 5 - Lowest weight reached on WW after having 1st child
    Goal 6 - 100 lbs down
    Goal 7 - Pre-pregnancy weight with 1st
Goal 8 - Weight I met my husband
    Goal 9 - 150 lbs down
    Goal 10 - Weight in Grade 8
    Goal 11 - Weight in Grade 6

It is recommended that you drink at least 64oz of water each day. Water may be pretty plain but does provide alot of benifits. About 10 weeks ago when I started, I only drank the minimum for the first week or so, but then it kinda grew on me and eveyday I drink 1-1 1/2 gallons per day. There are also many foods that are authorized during the induction phase, there is a food list posted as a sticky so I'm not going to list them all. If you havent read the 2002 version of the book, it is highly recommended that you do. Just about everything you need to know is found in that book.

On a side note, congradulations on loosing what you have so far. The loss of weight may slow down and when that time comes, and it will; keep a positive attitude. Best of luck to you on your journey

        Re: First time Atkins-er

Congrats on the weight loss so far!

Please take the time to read the book (2002 version) and the many links here so that you are 100% sure you are doing Atkins right. Don't 100% rely on the advice of others. I've found out the hard way that trying to do it my own way results in stalls and cheating and falling off the wagon. Following the book does work when you do it!

For instance, this is not a no carb diet, it's a high fat diet sometimes called low carb. Most of your carbs will be coming from veggies, especially nutrient dense ones (i.e. not just lettuce or salad ones), and fruit later on in OWL. You need these for their nutrients! Just like you need protein and fats for other nutrients.

You should be able to get to 160 if that is a valid weight for your height and you follow the program. Now, you might not always get there in the time frame that you'd like, but you can get there.

        Good luck!
        Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"
        STAC Restart: 1/05/09
        306/229/135 ~ 5'2" 77 lbs down!

        Goal #1: 247 - 2nd 10% (59lbs, 247, also 100 lbs total loss) - Met 1/4/10!!!
        Goal #2: 241 - Halfway to goal! (106 lbs lost) - Met 2/21/10!!!

        Goal #3: 222 - 3rd 10% - Lowest Atkins weight
        Goal #4: 210 - Still on track!
        Goal #5: 200/199 - 4th 10% - One-derland! End year goal!
Female/Hypothyroidism/Arthritis/Fibromyalgia - If I can lose weight on this, so can you!

Hey, welcome! A young person! =) No offense to anyone =P

            I'm 16, almost 17.

I think its possible, you might not lose alot of weight though, you'll gain muscles and look even better!
I think theres an introduction list of foods on the introduction page. Have a looksie round and you'll find everything you need =)

Congratulations on your loss so far It is good to see you taking control of your weight so early in life and not leaving it as late as I did

It seems to me that you are probably low on fats, but without seeing a menu it is hard to tell.

BTW What is in the '5 hour energy'?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
