  • Would you gain it back?

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. Anyways, I started Atkins like 1 and a half weeks ago, and I started out as 205 now im about 194. Anyways, I was just wondering, once I do reach my goal, and I start eating carbs again (I'm not saying I'm going to eat pizza and what not that made me gain weight in the first place), will I gain all the weight back because of reintroducing carbs?

If you go through the Rungs properly (slowly to find the foods that bother you and ones you can eat without any problems) you will be adding carbs back and once you reach your goal you should be able to eat things like pizza occassionally and not gain all your weight back. Atkins is more than just induction - read the book so you know what you're doing - follow the plan the way it's written - and you'll do fine.

So, is it possible to quit Atkins without gaining the weight back just for reintroducing carbs

It's possible, I'm sure, but highly unlikely. The vast majority of people I've seen go off Atkins or general low-carb (myself included) gain the weight back...and then some more.

        Start date: 03/14/09
        Goal #1 - 260 - Met 04/12/09! Goal #4 - 230 - Met 08/03/09!
        Goal #2 - 250 - Met 05/22/09! Goal #5 - 220 - Met 01/29/10 FINALLY!
        Goal #3 - 240 - Met 06/20/09! Goal #6 - 210

          Aren't you eating carbs now?

I'm not saying I'm going to eat pizza and what not that made me gain weight in the first place
          But what?

          Why would you quit Atkins?

Is this because people just reintroduce a lot of carbs suddenly, or they just go back to their old eating habits

both. when your blood sugar is increased from the carbs insulin is produced and insulin is a fat storing hormone so body fat increases when one is one a sugar high from carbs and when the cells can't metabolize the blood sugars the body stores them with lots of fluids so pounds are added that way too.

I'm sure you have not read DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION2002 EDITION or any of his other books or you'd know we do add back carbs in a controlled manner and the limiting factor for how many you can add is your own individual metabolism and how active you are.

I can eat 115 net carbs and lose weight if I workout about 2 hours a day 6 days a week. if I drop weight lifting gym days and only do my HIIT walking 60 min 3 days a week then my carbs cut back to 45 net.

45 net may seem like a small amount if you are wanting oreos but if you are eating veggies fresh dairy nuts/seed berries and legumes that is a heck of a lot.

as i said it appears you have not read any of Dr Atkins books or you would know you don't have to ever eat meat to do atkins. Atkins is a high fat moderate protein low carb plan.
One can be a veggetarian and do Atkins using dairy, legumes or pulses as you'd call them, nuts, seeds, and even grains as their protein.

One can always do a low cal diet to maintain but there are issues of hunger and such that it can't control like the atkins diet does.

Why not just go on a low-calorie diet and stick to that? Then you can make permanent lifestyle changes and stick to them rather than try a way of eating and lose weight then change back to something that will likely send you right back where you were.

Yo-yo dieting is not exclusive to Atkins. If I go on any diet at all and go back to my old ways I'm going to gain it back no matter how "careful" I am.

Re: Would you gain it back?

                      heres a guess

maybe if you spend 20 years on atkins and fully reverse your insulin resistant cells and then go on a diet of nothing toxic but just fruit oats meat sometimes and vegetables etc not atkins but not super toxic

toxic foods are like refind grains and candy and stuff

it's a big hassle though the fact you need to stay on atkins for 20 years first to fully heal your body and its insulin resistance and such and then once healthy you need to work out hard and eat non toxic carbs after that

and also im just guessing on this so it may not even work

but anyways heres my advice for you

stick to atkins for life but if you really want to eat indian food try your best to make it to rung 9 and eat natural non toxic foods like nothing refind then your body should beable to stay healthy even while eating a bit of them indian foods

and as for not wanting to eat meat everyday you can make due eating it every other day if you want but just make sure you don't flush it out of your body by eating to much fiber but make sure you eat something like eggs or butter or liver everyday atleast

and be very careful before considering a non atkins vegetarian indian diet make it your last resort because it is such a dangerous diet

The vegetarians of Southern India eat a low-calorie diet very high in carbohydrates and low in protein and fat. They have the shortest lifespan of any society on Earth, and their bodies have an extremely low muscle mass. They are weak and frail, and the children clearly exhibit a failure to thrive. Their heart disease rate is double that of the meat eaters in Northern India.

people can't grow properly on a vegetarian diet for example the vitamin K2 can only be found in animals and a human mothers breast milk

You do realize that the Atkins way of eating is low-carb, not no-carb, right?

Re: Would you gain it back?

In all honesty OP I think not going back to the way you ate is probably far healthier.

I think one of the biggest improvements for me (aside from weight loss) is the fact that I feel MUCH better eating so few carbs from the upper rungs (especially grains). The majority of my carbs used to come from starchy type carbs (bread, cereals, etc) and now I eat almost none in comparison.

If you've just started you might feel like you will miss them, but you really don't as you stay on the plan.
