  • Laxative question and stevia question

I have two questions. I was researching past forums on here about stevia and saw something about that it is possibly cancerous. Is that correct or am I reading it wrong? That is all I use for sweetener in my coffee and I HAVE TO HAVE SWEETENER IN MY COFFEE. I actually have been using the product Sun Crystals which uses pure cane sugar and stevia but only 1 carb. and tastes better than straight Stevia. Another question is laxatives. I've been using Swiss Kriss with sennosides (which I believe is senna) but have heard that my body can get addicted to laxatives, is this addictive? I have tried psyllium husk capsules but I have to take like four at a time four times a day and it still doesn't work that great. I feel less bloated with Swiss Kriss laxative. What about the soluble flavorless fiber powder? I know it doesn't have much fiber in it though and is water soluble fiber have to be counted for carbs?

Stevia is natural leaf plant, I couldn't think that it's cancerous. Did you google it?

I am not fond of the taste except strangely enough in yogurt and that I love, but I would think it's the healthiest of sweeteners there is.

Any laxative could be not addictive but you body will think it can't go without it. More like dependent I would up my veggies as soon as induction is over, I would add more per OWL and up your fiber also. Stay away from cheeses and see what happens. Making a flax seed muffin everyday sure helps me, I have no issues.

      Stevia is fine.

Limit sweeteners to 3 servings per day.

have heard that my body can get addicted to laxatives, is this addictive?
Well, since you have to have them... if I read your post correctly... then I guess the answer is yes.

How many net carbs from vegetables are you eating? How many grams of fiber from them?

Are approximately 65% of your calories coming from fat?

What about the soluble flavorless fiber powder?
      What are the ingredients?

is water soluble fiber have to be counted for carbs?
No fiber should be counted toward your net carbs.

Doesn't a flaxseed muffin have a lot of carbs?

Wheat dextrin is the ingredient for the water soluble fiber drink. I guess, truthfully, I don't have many vegetables at all. I have the mindset that they're high in carbs. I'm used to the old Atkins book. Are we allowed to have as many vegetables as we want and eat high protein foods too? It just doesn't seem right to me.

Are you familiar with the muffin in a minute recipe?

              Muffin in a Minute

              Serving Size: 1

              1/4 cup flax meal
              1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 packet splenda packet (I use liquid sweetener here)
              1 teaspoon cinnamon
              1 large egg
              1 teaspoon butter

Melt the butter in a large coffee mug - whisk in the egg - whisk in the rest - microwave for a minute. It does not have that much carb since flax is very fibery

Stevia Sweetner - TOXIC OR TASTY - The Real Issue in the Stevia Battles Here's one article about stevia with remarks about its controversy. I have never seen conclusive evidence that stevia causes cancer.

Personally, I would be very cautious about using the cane sugar blend you mentioned. I saw it at the market, saw it had sugar and passed. I have a lot of problems with cravings for sweets when I eat the wrong thing. It was very important to break my sweet addiction during induction. Also, are you limiting your sweeteners to 3 servings a day?

Desert offered what I was going to already... lower cheese amounts, raise veggies in OWL, try the flax meal muffins and add ground flax meal to other dishes to up your fiber intake. Psyllium husks didn't do much for me either I'm afraid. Now that I'm in the upper rungs of OWL I can have yogurt and so forth that really help my digestion. Hang in there... this is temporary.

Re: Laxative question and stevia question

You got to eat your vegetables - three cups worth a day. The vegetables we eat on induction are not very carby - they are good sources of fiber and nutrients.

You can have two to three cups per day of these vegetables. They are called "salad" vegetables in the book

                    alfalfa sprouts
                    daikon
                    mushrooms
                    arugula
                    endive
                    parsley
                    bok choy
                    escarole
                    peppers
                    celery
                    fennel
                    radicchio
                    chicory
                    jicama
                    radishes
                    chives
                    lettuce
                    romaine lettuce
                    cucumber
                    moche
                    sorrel
These salad vegetables are high in phytonutrients and provide a good source of fiber.

                    Other Vegetables
You can have one cup per day of these veggies if you only had two cups salad vegetables

The following vegetables are slightly higher in carbohydrate content than the salad vegetables:

                    artichoke
                    celery root
                    pumpkin
                    artichoke hearts
                    rhubarb
                    asparagus
                    chard
                    sauerkraut
                    bamboo shoots
                    collard greens
                    scallions
                    dandelion
                    snow peas
                    bean sprouts
                    dandelion greens
                    spaghetti squash
                    beet greens
                    eggplant
                    spinach
                    broccoli
                    hearts of palm
                    string or wax beans
                    broccoli rabe
                    kale
                    summer squash
                    brussels
                    kohlrabi
                    tomato
                    bean sprouts
                    leeks
                    turnips
                    cabbage
                    okra
                    water chestnuts
                    cauliflower
                    onion
                    zucchini
If a vegetable, such as spinach or tomato, cooks down significantly, it must be measured raw so as not to underestimate its carb count.

Oh I love these things... only I leave out the splenda and cinnamon, add a little kick with savory spices and eat it with cream cheese and butter. Yum!

The muffins sound good, I will try them. I think I will try to add more veggies to my diet. I guess I can even add butter to them also. Doesn't seem right to have buttery vegetables and coffee with half and half! Now if only I could find a good sweetener!
