  • Really feeling "foggy headed" on induction...

hi all, i've been on the induction for the past 8 days, right as dr. atkins says, and while i've lost 8 lbs (yay!) i am plagued with a forgetful foggy mind, mostly at night..i sleep late and have intense dreams, and i find i am calmer, i just feel a bit "out of touch" with my day, unlike before i started...i have a dull headache and feel confused after dinner...will this go away? can i do anything to stop it? i don't want to quit, but i hate not feeling myself. BTW, i was eating tons of crap, and stopped all sugar cold as dr. atkins prescribes, and i'm 60 lbs over my normal weight...sorry so long and thanks and god bless for your help!!!

        Ditto what Pagliaccia wrote.

It would be good to post a complete menu, with quantities and net carbs for all foods and drinks.

How much water are you drinking?

Are you spreading your net carbs throughout the day?

How many net carbs are you consuming? How many of them are coming from vegetables?

How many calories are you consuming, on average?

Re: Really feeling "foggy headed" on induction...

thanks ziggy, i am glad to know it's normal, but am not sure how long it''ll last....i def feel more calmer, no sugar highs, and find my conversations with others are more focused....i will bear in mind what you mentioned, and thank you for writing!

          Hi Giorgianna and Pagliaccia,

Well typically my menu is something like this:

scrambled or fried eggs in butter w/ bacon or turkey sausage (moderate amounts)

atkins bar or shake for a snack

lunch some roast beef, chicken or fish w/ 2 cups salad and an avocado

atkins shake or bar for a snack

dinner mostly steak w/ brussel sprots or spinach (side dish) small salad w/olive oil

and around 10-11 pm a snack of atkins shake or bar

i think this is ok, and i am DEF losing weight, 8lbs today and today is the 8th day

          (i also take a multivitamin w/ fishoil, 100mg Q-10, L-carnitine 2x daily(1000 mg)

i feel mostly great, but for the foggy head and mental confusion that comes...

          what do you think???

basically, before i started this 8 days ago, for the past year i would eat anything i choose, sweets, cookies all usually after 8 pm till 12 am....

          thank you and god bless!!!!

            >>(moderate amounts)>>

What's that exactly? Your "moderate amount" might be different than mine.

            >> what do you think???>>

            You're having 3 bars/shakes a day???

At worst you should have 2, at best none.

You're limited to 1/2 avocado per day on Induction.

How much water are you drinking?

How many net carbs are you eating?

You should ditch the bars/shakes and eat real food ... you can buy a lot of real food for the money your spending on "product".

Fogginess can be related to not enough water or not enough vegetable carbs or not enough food.

Ok, I realized after touring the site and very helpful responses through everyone that while I have been on the induction for 8 days and have lost 8 lbs, what Atkins gal made sense....i realize that 2-3 cups mean just that. 2-3 Cups!! i usually eyeballed it, and while clearly eating the "allowable" foods, i realized that last night i had a pork chop w/ asparugus, but it was about 12 stalks, which would be almost 3 cups alone!!
and she mentioned about the extra bars of Aktins snacks, which i should hold off on and get thru induction clean...

i'm drinking plently of water, prob more than required, but i need to watch exactly the portions

                thank you all...

I agree w/ Atkinsgal - get rid of the crap (bars and shakes). Real food is so much better.

During my first week or so back on induction I felt weird. I wasn't sleeping well and had CRAZY dreams. Not sure if it was induction related or not.. lol

I feel foggy and out of it when I don't get enough calories or 'good' carbs (veggies).
Also when I don't get enough water.

Anyway, I'd try to follow the induction list to the TEE for a few days and drink drink drink that water and see if that helps...

Oh and don't forget your vitamins! You need those nutrients you may miss out on in the beginning!

If nothing else, it will pass soon enough.

Good for you! It's great to see someone step back, re-evaluate and adjust their diet likewise.

How do you figure? Are you going to chop up the asparagus so it fits neatly into a cup, which no air?

12 medium stalks of fresh asparagus is 3.45 net carbs.

Do you really think that's going to ruin anything?

That is so funny, i've had the most amazingly insane crazy dreams too, and feel like sleeping for hours...but, like you said, I have been very good not to eat anything "unallowed" however I really need to follow it to the "tee"

i'm really committed, and your words are inspiring....thank you!!!

I don't really know how to figure the net carbs on veggies, thus my confusion....

                            Total carbs minus fiber.

How to count the carbs that count is discussed in your book.

For an accurate carb counter, check out the USDA site:

You can even download it to your pc:

                            Nutrient Data Products and Services

The sooner you learn to count, the better. You really need to do it on OWL.

Yes the sooner you figure it out the better it'll be!
When I first started I didn't realize there was a difference between carbs and net carbs... well once I figured it out (thanks to ADBB lol) I was able to eat so much more!!
... and that's good cause I like to eat. LOL
