I got back on Atkins about 6 weeks ago and was in my second week doing great, down 7 pounds and starting to get on a roll, then it happened :-( I have what is called a Shatsky Ring, it's a ring that wraps around your esophagus narrowing the passage for food to travel to your stomach. I was enjoying a spare rib (eating too fast, like someone was going to take it from me
) and a piece got stuck in my throat. This has happened in the past and it is very painfull until it is able to work it's way to your stomach. Well it would not go down so my wife takes me to the hospital ER and they make me drink some type of medicine while they pump a muscle relaxing drug in me and nothing happens but the medicine comes back up. (KEEP BED PAN HANDY) So now I need to wait until 7:00am for a surgeon to come in and scope it out, but by 6:00am the piece of meat decides it's time to pass into the stomach. So a week later and a lot of soft foods later I get the scope down the throat and they widen the Shatsky ring, and everything else appears to be in good shape too, so something good game out of this. So I am going to give it a go again without the fear of chocking on meat. By the way the Internist who did my scope said they also call this syndrome "steakhouse syndrome" he then told me if I get the weight off most of these issues will go away. By the way, the drugs they give you before the procedure were great
