  • German Sausage

i just purchased some german sausage (bratwert) which from the label says each sausage = 1 net point (ha ha joke for atkinsgal) 1 net carb - which contains 92 % pork
i have been having these for breakfast with eggs - on further inspection of the ingredients it actually say contains glucose syrup so my question is even though the net carbs is 1 per sausage - can i have this product because of this ingredient and in general any product with this ingredient in.

    Many Thanks

    Re: German Sausage

Most sausages and other processed meats do have sugars in them. Sadly I had to eliminate hard Italian sausage from my diet as I would just sit and eat the whole package. No surprise that they contain sugar. I would look first at your results... are you losing weight and are you free of sweet cravings? If what you're doing is working, there's no need to fix it.

      Re: German Sausage

I have found some sausages and pepperoni prepared locally in my area where they leave out those kinds of stuff. So that is what I have been eating. Find them at my local farmer's market.

You should NOT be having this according to the rules.

As the others have said, with the glucose and only having 92% pork in them they are not the best Atkins choice.
You should be able to find a better bratwurst - according to my fitday custom entry when I started Atkins I found bratwurst at Lidl with only 0.3 carbs per 3 ounce sausage (and 99.5% pork too I think).

I don't really like sausages so haven't bought them for a while, so the ingredients of the brand they carry now might be different, but if you have a Lidl or Aldi locally they would be worth checking out.

If the labels do not have an English list of ingredients copy out the german list then use babelfish or a similar translation website to see what is in them.

Places like Lidl and Aldi tend to carry german, italian or dutch meats which do not have so many additives as the traditional british versions. They do not always have the nutrition panel on the packet but if you contact their customer service department (check their websites for phone numbers) they have always been able to find the info for me in the past.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                Re: German Sausage

The ones i had were from Aldi -while we are on the subject of fitday i have used it to calc net carbs per day but there is such a big difference eg. asparagus on label says 100 g 2.0 Carbs - Fitday say 4.0
100 g Mushroom label says 0.5 Fitdays says 3.3 - am i missing something? i have looked in the faq and it says fibre is deducted. any help would be appreciated.

                Thanks

The carbs on your label are net carbs. The carbs in FitDay are total carbs. To find net carbs in FitDay, you need to subtract dietary fiber from total carbs.

In FitDay, 100 g of raw asparagus have 3.9 g carbohydrate and 2.1 g dietary fiber. That's 1.8 net carbs.

i have looked in the faq and it says fibre is deducted
That only applies to (non-American) labels, not to the information in FitDay.

On an individual item in Fitday, you can click on it to see the "nutritional label" ... and then you simply subtract the fiber from the total carbohydrate.

If you're looking at the Calories Eaten today window, you subtract the fiber from the total carbohydrates for your daily food log.
