  • Club Soda? Diet Soda?

I searched the forum and found a few posts here and there that say Club Soda and Diet Soda are okay.

Are you guys drinking diet soda and still losing weight? Is there anything i should take into consideration with either? Will the diet soda make me crave other sweet drinks/foods?

I am sticking with water for now but if i start craving soda i want to make sure i can drink either of them. Thanks.

Club soda and seltzer water is permitted, but they do not count towards the minimum of 64 fluid ounces of water daily. (By the way, I know you will get responses here and via PMs to the effect of "I drank club soda---two large bottles of it every.single.day. and I lost weight JUST FINE!!!!!!!! So go ahead and drink your club soda and seltzer water. It's water!" But bear in mind, club soda and seltzer water are not "just" water---they contain additives and therefore do not count towards that 64 fluid ounce water minimum.)

Be aware too that club soda contains sodium which might cause water retention.

Having a craving would be a good reason not to have diet soda.

That would be feeding your cravings.

For what it's worth, the plain unflavored seltzer water I drink is simply carbonated water ... there are no additives.

The additive is the carbon dioxide, hence the alternate name for seltzer water: carbonated water. Regular water---tap, filtered, bottle, spring---does not contain excessive carbon dioxide (ie: enough carbon dioxide to make the water bubble.)

            Re: Club Soda? Diet Soda?

People who will tell you they kept drinking soda and lost weight so it didn't cause any lack of weight loss don't really know if they would have lost more or not...they didn't stop drinking so it's not a factual statement.

During induction it's best to go sweetner free so no soda or anything with sweetner in it....induction is the time you are cleansing your body preparing it for whole foods, not the processed foods you've been eating.

64 ounces of pure water is recommended daily - nothing but pure water counts. Check your book for the list of "other" items you can drink after you've gotten your water in. The way I see it, if there is no nutritional value to something why eat or drink it? It's not essential but water is essential. Good luck!

Sorry, Megs ... I should have clarified.

The plain seltzer water I drink doesn't contain any extra sodium (like club soda) or flavorings, or sweetener.

I understand that it contains "carbonation".

Thanks for helping me make that clearer.

                Re: Club Soda? Diet Soda?

I do enjoy club soda with a splash of soda in the summer as it's very refreshing... but I don't let it be a replacement for water.

I drink a diet soda may once or twice a month? I do ok with it, but I'm also aware that if I buy a large amount and have it in my kitchen I'll drink it like crazy and wind up overdoing it on sweeteners and BAM I'm craving sweets again. *sigh*

I've been drinking a can of Diet Schweppes Ginger Ale about once every 1-2 days. It is sweetened with suraclose. I like it for a change of pace, get bored of drinking water all the time.
