  • Truvia vs. Other Sweetners?

I am looking for a new sweetner. I have always used splenda but have noticed they give me a slight cravings for sweets after finishing them. However anything with aspartame is fine.. Weird I Know.. I saw Truvia at the store and was wondering if anyone had used it. I wa son there webstie and saw that it had 3 carbs per packet used. So if i used may daily max of 3 packets a day that would be half my carbs ouch! or did I do the math wrong?

Anyways, are there any sweetners besides splenda that I could use?

Someone gave me some Truvia. It's still in the pantry and I doubt I'll ever use it. I can't afford the carb count on those and I didn't think it tasted that good either.

I just use splenda, I hated truvia, and since I only use it once in a while, I can deal, but I am lucky it does not give me cravings

Those are total carbs, not net, and are coming from erythritol. Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that has a zero glycemic index. Approximately 90% of the ingested erythritol is excreted unused in urine, while the remaining 10% reaches the large intestine where it is fermented.

You can subtract the 3 grams of erythritol from the total grams of carbohydrate, so the net carbs are essentially zero.

What Are Sugar Alcohols - Blood Sugar and Sugar Alcohols

Just a little info on sugar alcohols. When reading labels, take note of the sugar alcohols and subtract those grams from the grams of carbs. Even if Truvia is essentially zero carbs in this respect, keep it to 3 servings or less per day to stay safe. As the article says, you may suffer gas and other unpleasant digestive effects from sugar alcohols... so go easy on them or stay close to the restroom. LOL

You can use it, do this......Mix it with a small amount of water (it should be the consistency of wall paper glue) and apply to your face with a paint or makeup brush. Let it set until dry (about 20-30 minutes) and rinse off. It makes an excellent facial mask, with toning properties and gives the face a nice glow

That's somehow true... but because only 10% of the ingested erythritol is fermented in the large intestine, one would have to eat what I would consider to be a ridiculous amount to have such problems. For comparison, the percentage of ingested maltitol (the sugar alcohol that is used in some of the Atkins bars) that "escapes" to the large intestine is 60%.

I swear by Stevia. Truvia is not Stevia. I know that Splenda and Aspartame are not natural or healthy. Both have been known to cause psychological side effect, such as anxiety, that I do not need! I used packets of stevia in coffee, to make lemonade, in flax muffins, in whipped cream, and when cooking certain meats in the crockpot. Sugarfreesheila has a peanut butter flax cookie recipes that I intend to make with stevia! Yum!

which would explain why I have an "adverse" reaction to them... I'll spare you the details ROFL

I use Truvia but only for sweetening tea or lemonade. I like the taste.

Right off the bat I want to make clear that I have never tried Truvia. In its defense some people really like it, but I have read of people who have had apparent reactions to it --stomach cramps, bloating, gas, diarrehea ( can't remember how to spell that word, but i'm sure you all know what I mean), and others.

Health Personal: Anyone else tried Truvia?

Truvia is over 99% erythritol, which they derive from corn. Cargill, whose product it is, has reported that 30% of their corn is GMOs.

In my opinion, you should research the topic yourself and see what you think and not base your decision soley on what others have said because you are the one who will need to live with your decision.

Yes, there are other sweeteners that you can research yourself...I use one that I've mentioned before.

                          I agree.

And didn't we see before that your information is based on solid facts?
