  • Holy Eggs Batman!

this week i went thru 34 eggs.
    that sounds like A LOT...
i had 2 every day in the am (10) we had eggs for dinner 3 nights (6 per night between my husband and I) (1 and then I made 12 mini crustless quiches for quicky breakfasts for this weekend (6).

34 flippin eggs!!! Am i able to buy liquid egg whites to mix in with whole eggs so that we aren't going through 2 flats of eggs a week?

good thing i love them I've been making these big "mash ups" with bacon, pepper, onion and cheese.. so tasty!! just a tiny bit of onion though as it's higher in carbs.

i take it 2 flats of eggs means something like 2 packages of eggs

but its ok to eat that many eggs a week but it would not be very good if you had alot of egg whites only

the yolk of the egg is where all the fat and vitamins are!
a whole egg is 61% fat and a fat % while on atkins is around 65%

whole eggs are one of the best foods but if the yolk is removed then you need to add fat to it for it to be healthy

atkins is a high fat, medium protein, low carb diet

i just said all that cause you only got 10 posts but if you already knew all this then

a whole chicken egg is 61% fat, 38% protein, 1% carbs

even if you mix in just egg whites with your whole eggs the protein may get a little to high and the fat may get a little to low

I presume you are you wanting to add liquid egg whites because you want to "stretch" the eggs out a bit because of the cost of eggs?

I never bought them so I don't know, but wouldn't the cost of the liquid egg whites be more than buying a dozen eggs?
I'm just guessing, I have never priced them, sorry if I am wrong.)

Well that is only about 6 per day each, so not bad in my opinion In UK half a dozen eggs do not cost as much as eating 2 meals of meat per day!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I wouldn't worry about it especially during the induction phase of the diet. If the majority of your carbs are coming from eggs instead of veggies, though, that's maybe something to look at... though it doesn't sound like that's the case.

What I don't like about egg beaters and other brands of liquid eggs is what they add....my egg in a shell doesn't have spices, salt, onion powder and gums....

I went to dietfacts.com site and found the Egg Beaters ingredient list:

            INGREDIENTS:
Egg whites (99%), less than 1%: Natural flavor, color (includes beta carotene), spices, salt, onion powder, vegetable gums (xanthan gum, guar gum).

Vitamins and Minerals: Calcium sulfate, iron (ferric phosphate), vitamin E (alpha tocopherol acetate), zinc sulfate, calcium pantothenate, vitamin B12, vitami nB2 (riboflavin), vitamin B1 (thiamine mononitrate), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride), folic acid, biotin, vitamin D3.

            Contains: Eggs.

I wish that I liked eggs! Such a perfect food... and I'm just not crazy about them.

I'm with the others... eat real eggs.

not egg beaters.. (gross) they are liquid egg whites.
makes stuff fluffier i find. but if its throwing the balance of fat vs. protein i'm not going to mess around with it. i'm having great success on this so far and don't want to mess with it.
thanks for your replies i appreciate it!!

                  Re: Holy Eggs Batman!

Wow, and I thought I ate a lot of eggs. I stretch my eggs with additional whites and I personally love the additional whites and the way they texture of my omelets/scrambled.

Lannerjarv, you haven't updated your stats. I am sure it's on purpose. Just curious.

Well, unless you add fat in another form to make up for the yolks, it will throw off percentages. For a while I was using liquid eggwhites to make shakes (for the convenience factor). I added a couple of tablespoons of ground flaxmeal to the shake to up the fat. You can track percentages in Fitday to make sure that your not protein-heavy.
