  • We're all going to die!

So, im a sophomore in college and am currently taking Physical Fitness. Today, after doing a lecture on carbohydrates and fats, my instructor handed out a piece of paper. It was labeled "bad foods" and I realized that it looked identical to my grocery list. Hmm. Then she proceeded to tell the class that eating these foods would ultimately lead to death. Wow. Needless to say I had a few comments. I mean really...no wonder people are so critical to the Atkins diet! So... pretty much we're all going to die. Even though im in better health now than I was before I started this WOE...just sayin.

Well it is true - we are all going to die.

I know the "science" of nutrition has some catching up to do but there are some good guys out there.

You know the facts on the diet and your happy thats all that counts I say dont waste time on people who see it in a negative way because you can tell them a-z about the diet but they will never agree its good for you.

LOL you should have ask her if she had any peer reviewed studies to back up those claims she could share with you and the class. Bet she doesn't.

Yes, I mentioned what diet I was on and told her about the weight I had lost and what the doctor had said about my health improving. It shut her up..for now. I just thought it was sort of funny how ignorant some people are on the subject. Oh well!

Re: We're all going to die!

You have kind of hit on a quandry I just found myself in tonight. I'm a Girl Scout leader to second grade Brownies. We are just starting The Brownie Quest (new program material), and as I was looking over the curriculum I noticed a section on healthy eating including multiple recipes to make with the girls. The book totally stresses low fat everything and high sugar fruits and vegetables in every recipe. I take real issue with passing this nonsense on to another generation, and have a real issue with how I'm going to present this material keeping with the program and not upsetting any parents by telling their kids I don't believe that crap, lol. But I don't want to lie to the kids either, but this section is required to complete the quest.................
              1st Goal ~ 199 Onderland -Met 3/29/10

It just won't be due to our food, obesity, etc etc etc... lol

OH NO!!!! WE'RE GOING TO DIE!!!!!

on a serious note, Barb, I sympathize with you're dilemma re: girl scout teaching. That would be a tough one.

Candace, good luck with your class and hope that you can continue to challenge those outdated ideas without your grade suffering.

Love your post "We're all going to die". Been an RN all my life and this plan totally goes against the nutrition we learned---but I know from experience it works for great weight loss and control plus I always feel totally wonderful on the plan with more energy and fewer health issues.

Just a minute ... :::checking pulse::: ... Okay, I am alive. I was worried.

On the other hand, when I was severely morbidly obese after 100 attempts at Low Fat, Weight Watchers, Diet Workshop ... blah, blah, blah ... every morning I woke up, I was sort of surprised.

A nurse I recently met in my professional capacity, had heard that I lost weight. She actually approached me with a smile and asked if I had surgery. When I said no, she looked puzzled and asked how I did it. When I told her Atkins, she shook her head and asked me if I knew it was dangerous. I just stared at her in disbelief. Silly me. Gee, I guess living as a ticking time bomb wasn't dangerous enough.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

might be a good time to teach the glycemic load and y'all could use it to select some lower carb fruits for your cooking.

then you could look at the vits and minerals in the ingredients and explain how fat soluble vits have to have a fat eatten with them for the intestines to absorb them.

Now you will have the kids saying hey I need a fat to get my vits from this healthy food.

i'm having that issue with my 2nd grader...his teachers are trying to teach nutrition, and i have to constantly dispute the garbage he's learning in class.
