  • Valentines Day

With V day coming up I dont know why ...maybe it is the chocolate and candy Im being forced to look at sent home from my daughters school or everytime I go to a store I see it... I am feeling kinda cheated .. I know it kind of sounds dumb but I cant think of a way to celebrate V day without chocolate. Feeling mad and like I wanna sleep until its over!

    Re: Valentines Day

I hear ya...and I thought the Superbowl was gonna be hard, but I breezed thru it.

Now that Valentines Day is almost here, I too am worried. The funny thing is, I'm not much of a sweets person. But a nice dinner with dessert and a few drinks are all no-no's at this stage (for me) and I've been invited to a singles V-Day dinner party which makes it especially challenging as I don't know most of the people that will be there. Actually, I am not sure if I will go or not (although I RSVP'd yes). What to do?

Wish I had a better response for you and a way to handle it, but it looks like we're in a similar boat.

      Re: Valentines Day

I know the feeling. I walk into the store and get smacked by all the candy. Today I even stood there staring at it. I then turned around and saw the juiciest steaks o_O...Yeah we are having steaks tomorrow nigth .

What I use to do to get over those cravings is to add a little cocao powder to some heavy cream and some vanilla extract to taste (and a pinch of sweetener) and whip it up. Worked great for TOM.

I like chocolate but I must be an odd woman as I have never been excited about it.

Tomorrow I am having Prime Rib and Califlower with cheese sauce and I am more excited about that than I would be chocolate.

                Re: Valentines Day

I am a sucker when it comes to chocolate, it is almost an obsession. I was really worried about dealing with this too....

My hubby is thankfully very nonchalant about my weight issues, and knowing that I LOVE chocolate, he'd bring some home for me on a regular basis. Like I needed the help lol, but his heart is in the right place.

He isn't completely on board with me doing Atkins again, as last time I did he was with me at my doctor's office on a visit when we discussed my diet, and the doctor was adamant about Atkins being an unhealthy way to eat. It was a ridiculously uneducated sentiment coming from a medical professional, and I tried to explain it all to him, but to no avail.

He's not exactly encouraging, but he has atleast kept the negativity to a minimum.

To my surprise, he came home yesterday with a huge, 4 ft tall teddy bear for me. No sugar whatsoever.

I was touched by the fact that he is respecting my needs, and it also made me think hard about holidays past-and not miss the chocolate.

How many times have I gotten sugar as a gift, something that is gone (and regretfully transferred to my thighs) in the blink of an eye?

Chocolate is gone in a few bites, and makes me feel guilty afterward.
It's much better to get something that I can hang on to, and every time I see it be reminded of my dh being thoughtful.
3 years ago, I lost 60 pounds in 12 weeks on Atkins.
I have PCOS, which makes my weight REALLY sensitive to carb intake, and I've gained back most of it since going off plan.
                Restarting 02/07/10.

lol femalegreen... awesome dragon lady.. I dunno why ppl say it is an unhealthy way to eat... they have not read enough info on it b/c i mean it isnt as if we r gorging ourselves upon all the meats and fats we can get our hands on for crying out loud... yes we can eat liberally of most meats but we get full quickly portion is controlled and veggies are also in the mix.. I think this is much healthier than the average person eats! Do you know how much sugar is in MOST of everything that ppl eat... things you wouldnt even think had or need sugar.. its a conspiracy i tell u! lol

Me too even though I learned long ago to stay away from Lindor truffles.

I've always looked at Valentine's Day as a fun day...even when I was single. Now that I'm an old fart it's a special day still. And I make it that way for me and Mr. Ski. Tomorrow I'm making some great OWL recipes (blueberry scones & lemon curd for breakfast, lobster salad & roasted asparagus spears for lunch and either duck or pot roast for dinner). And I made some pink strawberry Cream Cheese Clouds for dessert. Oh, did I mention that I have special dishes & cups with hearts all over them?

Mr. Ski got me some beanie baby Alvin, Theodore & Simon dolls as he knows I'm a lifelong toys R us kid.

Well, I LOVE chocolate, and would have called myself a chocoholic, but it is not even appealing to me at all today. I think the total out-of-control freefall that I had after the holidays that got me started again here really burned me out on the sweet stuff.

So, I told hubby....no chocolate for Valentine's Day! Not even that sugar-free c**p. So what did my sweetie give me? A nice basket of assorted cheeses! I think I've got a keeper, ladies, huh?

Off to a big family get together at a local restaurant. Pancakes galore on the menu, but also at least a dozen omelet choices. Yum!

I had a good day, went for a nice hike and then decided at the last minute to go to the party. I just told everybody that I had hurt my back at work the day before and took some muscle relaxers so I couldn't drink any wine.

I was able to fill up on filet mignon, salmon, shrimp and asparagus and a salad. Just skipped the desert bar. People kept asking me if I wanted something and just kept saying I'll get some in a little bit. Not a problem (as I pat myself on the back).

Oh ya, down another three pounds this week!
