  • DOH!!! (Slaps head)

OMG I'm such an idiot. I'm wondering why I'm up a few pounds over the last three days...

It's because I forgot that peanuts were legumes. So that serving of Jif on a spoon for two days has really thrown me off.

Nuts, nuts, nuts...what a way to remember!

LOL, it's certainly a learning adventure. Some folks do consider peanuts nuts and use them on the nut rung, but your lucky as you found they don't agree with you and bumped them up a few rungs.
I wonder if you could try almond butter?

You might want to skip the nut rung all together if you find your having troubles with it.

        Technically peanuts are legumes.

Technically many of the vegetables we eat are fruits (botanically speaking).

For Atkins, peanuts are nuts. However, if they're a trigger food for you, it might be wise to save them until the legume rung.

Thank you SO MUCH for the almond butter suggestion! Never even thought of that.

So far, adding macadamias has had no ill effect, so I"ll just stick with those. What a sacrifice!

Glad to hear peanuts are nuts. I was in the health food store the other day and they had a sale on their fresh ground (is it ground?) peanut butter so I bought a pound. Hadn't tried it yet, but hadn't thought about it being a legume either. I think I'll go ahead and try it so it doesn't spoil, but I'll use it caustiously thanks to this thread.

If you find that you can't stick to portions of nut butters (remember, an OWL addition is one ounce for most nuts) you could make your own using one ounce of nuts and a bit of oil, so once it is gone it is gone!!

I think what I meant was that sometimes peanuts affect a person like a legume would and she found out that it gave her problems.

I too seem to have problems with peanuts. They don't seem to trigger cravings, but I have noticed a slowdown in weight loss progress since I started eating them, or at least it seems like it. Granted I have been more slack on my diet the last month or so than I was before in other ways too. If it is the peanuts, it may be because the ones I was buying had some salt, but then again maybe not - maybe its the peanuts themselves. I am going to take them back out of my diet for a bit and then add them in later again and be more mindful.

Could it have been something else in the peanut butter? Maybe try whole nuts. I can't imagine eating peanut butter again. I know that's one food that I would way overeat if the urge hit. Give me a jar and give me a spoon, it wouldn't be pretty LOL

I don't have the same urge with whole peanuts though so I'll them in when the time comes.

Nuts slowed down my weight loss (I think). Things kind of came to a halt weight and inch wise once I hit the nut rung. I'm testing out what happens if I remove them now. I was very cautious with the portions. Didn't even try the nut butters. Oh well.
