I am 185lb as of today and am in my induction phase...i have been reading where alot of the success stories on here mention they follow the Atkins WOE but also keep their calories in a ceartain range? Is this something I need to do? If so how do you know how many calories to take in??

Re: Do i need to count calories on this WOE?
You do not NEED to count calories.
The only reason I care about them when I'm helping someone is to make sure they're eating enough. (People tend to undereat sometimes.)
A good rule of thumb is 10-12 times your current body weight. Or figure your BMR and eat 250 calories above that.
BMR Formula
What you should be counting is your carbs though!J.

Re: Do i need to count calories on this WOE?
Don't bother with calories, Some folks who stall out or start having problems keep track of the calories just to see whats going on, but if your losing and happy, don't complicate it.
BTW, if you use FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal your calories will be counted for you automatically and it gives you a great snapshot of how your doing. Remember though you have to subtract the fiber from the carbs as it doesn't do that for you.
Your post said that your at 185 but that you started on the 13th of Jan at 180! Is that correct or did you just not update your siggy? If it's true?
We can do this kiddo

The only reason I look at my calories every day is to make sure I Eat Enough ! I have a tendency to not eat enough after too many years of having it drilled into my head to "Cut Back".MAY 2010 Challenges

Re: Do i need to count calories on this WOE?
I did not count mine. They were on fitday and some days I ate more others less. That is what worked for me.
(And I certainly ate more than 10 times my body weight - I think that is way to low a number)

Re: Do i need to count calories on this WOE?
I have counted calories and find that THAT makes me eat too much. I try to keep them under this "magic number" everyone else around here seems to have (1600-1800 most popular?)but then I'm not eating enough, STARVING and you know what comes next.
I eat to satisfied, try to keep control, and count my carbs. And I lose weight that way, on an extraordinary amount of calories, but I work out an extraordinary amount!
Atkins works JUST they way they tell you to do it here..JUST exactly the way they say. Eat fat, drink water, eat clean, count carbs, do move up the rungs and phases, don't use fake food. I swear, they've not steered me wrong ONE time here! Not one time

Sure you can.
However, if you've decided that it's more important than your health ... and goals, then ...
Ask yourself this ... does it love you back?
And ... is it water?
And ... you remember there's a limit of 3 servings of sweetener per day, and 8 ounces of soda is a serving.J.

Same thing,
I "watch my calories" on Fitday to make sure I am eating enough, and I just sort of monitor to stay in a reasonable "range" that I feel comfortable with. NOTE: I definitely have set a minimum for myself.
I do not choose what I am going to eat based on their caloric number.259/206/149

if and only if you can't learn to just feed your hunger and stop then you'd need an artificial braking mechanism for your your eating and would need to count cals so you don't over eat your atkins.by the book atkinseer

Re: Do i need to count calories on this WOE?
Instead of going "cold turkey", you can try making a bargain with yourself that you will drink 2 big glasses of water before you permit yourself each Mt Dew. Over time, you can increase the prerequisite amount of water. The only thing i cannot give up is my Dt. Mt Dew

I don't think we get this drink in UK so I tried to find the ingredients for it online.Originally posted by mom2jjl07 View PostThe only thing i cannot give up is my Dt. Mt Dew

It seems that as well as the HFCS (=sugar) in the regular version it has concentrated orange juice (= sugar)
Are you drinking this or a diet version? What ingredients are in it? There might be something that is feeding your cravings.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
