Re: I am just not willing to give up..........

This is coming from a regular Mt. Dew addict. I gave it up 3 weeks ago. The one thing I noticed within a few days of giving up soda is my stomach is almost flat now. I tried drinking a diet Mt. Dew and as soon as I did my stomach bloated right back up. I never realized how much soda bloated my tummy. Not drinking soda was probably the hardest thing I gave up. It being Mt. Dew with all the caffeine was even worse than the other sodas I think. My head felt like it was going to explode. But it only took a couple days and now I don't even want it. Sounds silly I drank 6-8 a day.

You might want to try giving it up. Like I said you will notice your tummy flatten pretty quickly and also you will feel a lot better. Just drink lots of water to flush it all out of your system once it is out you wont even miss it.

You'll feel and look so much better if you can break that habit. How many a day do you drink?

Remember eating under 20 net carbs isn't all you have to do. It has to be the right combo of food. Be sure you are only eating induction friendly foods in the right amounts and you will see great results.

Any soda, diet or regular, is just not good for you. They have more chemicals in it than you can count! And it BLOWS YOU UP like a balloon!

10 years ago I gave up a 2 pack a day cigarette habit and a daily 6 pk of Regular Pepsi.

        It CAN be done!

Re: I am just not willing to give up..........

From a fellow diet soda junkie (Diet Pepsi, Diet Dew, you name it), give it up cold turkey. The caffeine release is tremendous, and Mountain Dew is loaded with caffeine, I think something like 3 or 4 cups of coffee's worth. That alone is reason enough. Also the Aspartame (NutraSweet) definitely slows the weight loss down. If losing slower doesn't discourage you, well...your choice. But I would at least cut back and even try to wean yourself off of them.

If refusing to give them up and dreaming about them isn't a sure sign of a serious addiction, I don't know what is.

          Best of luck.

Re: I am just not willing to give up..........

The reason water tastes like "poo" to you is because you have allowed your mind to determine that only sweetened drinks taste good. Your body isn't naturally made up of chemical compounds, fizzy water and sweetners it's made up of water.....so by starting Atkins and changing your food and drink choices will help make your body feel better.

How you feel depends on how much you think about it and how much you stress over the change. Each person is different, so what happened to someone else may not happen to you -- I wouldn't worry about it...just remember the Nike words "Just Do It"

Re: I am just not willing to give up..........

When I decided to give up soda it was a week before I started induction. I too hate water. I bought sugar free Kool aid type drinks (crystal light and Wylers sugar free lemonade) I started drinking those the first couple of days to get used to non fizzy drinks and to also satisfy my need for something flavored. I have a Keurig coffee maker and I would wait until my caffeine headache was so bad I couldn't stand it and I would have 1/2 a cup of coffee just to squash the headache. After about 2 days I didn't need that 1/2 a cup at all and I got no more headaches.

Once I got over the headaches and caffeine and sugar withdrawl on day 3 I made a deal with myself. I could have one crystal light drink for every bottle of water I drank. If I didn't drink any water I didn't have anything to drink. I did that for about 2 days then moved myself to I had to have 2 bottles of water for every 1/2 a bottle of crystal light. Finally it got to where I would just drink water and not even bother with the Crystal Light.

Once I was able to drink water all day and go with out coffee I started induction. It made it a little easier for me because I wasn't trying to give up everything at one time.

I hated water too when I started, but when things get washed out of your system in a week or so the water starts to taste much better. Your tastebuds need to readjust themselves from that nasty stuff. Now I am at the point where I get really cranky if I don't have my water at all times. I am a water junky now! At least I replaced one bad addiction with a "good" addiction. Oxymoron......I know.

It is funny too because after I gave up all the sweet drinks I find water now tastes sweet. Anyone else notice that? I guess before I had so much sugar in my mouth that the water just tasted blah but now it has a whole new taste.

                          >>i WANT to stop drinking it..i>>

                          Really? Are you sure?

Since it's got so much caffeine, you might want to taper off it ...

First off ... you have to DECIDE you're going to quit it, then you have to have a plan.

The title of this topic is rather counter to your comment that you WANT to stop drinking it.

It would be great if you did give it up ... think of the money saved ...

If your water tastes bad put a slice of lemon in it, don't squeeze just put a slice in. That helps tremendously, especially if your water tastes bad. My water here is so bad I double filter it, whole house filter and fridge filter. But a slice of lemon will help.

I'm kind of the same way about my coffee. The weird thing is, though, that I went from a pot-o'-coffee-a-day addict to about one to two cups a day. In fact frequently I'll fill my cup in the morning and find I've only had half of it.

You may find that the energy you seek from that weird green sparkly liquid will come naturally from doing Atkins... and won't need the boost so much from the Dew.

                              Stranger things have happened.
