  • Doh! Need for flavor is killing me!

I'm still a newbie, learning the ropes, and learned an important lesson the hard way: Just because one this is 'free', don't make any assumptions about similar items. White wine vinegar = free... must mean I can marinate all of my veggies in balsamic! (As I have been doing EVERY DAY since I started 5 weeks ago - I'm doing extended induction)
Imagine my horror when I saw that balsamic has 2 grams of carbs per tbsp! I have been pouring CUPS of it into bowls, allowing all the flavor to soak into cukes, etc. No wonder I've been in a total stall and not losing an ounce!

So - here's the question, fellow dieters - what's your favorite way to season your veggies? I love my veggies, don't get me wrong - but I'm a big flavor kind of girl. Any suggestions from you pros?

Herbs and garlic are my very good friends. My favorites are oregano, basil, chervil, granulated onion, granulated garlic, cumin, cayenne... I could go on and on. Butter it up or douse it with olive oil and broil or grill or stir fry and it's ON!

Can you recommend a ranch brand? I looove ranch, but have had trouble finding any with super-low carbs?

I just like the way they taste. I mix them up a lot and have a great variety. My favourite way of eating them is lightly sauteed in olive oil. The odd time I may add some soy sauce for a variation.

I make my own dressing, even before this woe, just because I like it better. I'm sorry to say I don't measure anything when I make it, I just eyeball it. The only carbs in it would be a REALLY small amount from the sour cream (1 carb for 2 Tbsp, which would be spread out into several servings), and the red wine vinegar and worcesterchire. My bottles of both of these say less than 1 carb per 2 Tbsp, and I don't use anywhere near that much in a batch for several salads' worth anyway.

Mayo & Extra virgin olive oil (about equal amounts)
a dollop of sour cream ( about 1/5 for the amount of mayo)
                some parmesan
                black pepper
                parsley flakes
                dash of salt
                a little onion powder
splash of red wine vinegar and worcesterchire

I add a little water until it's the right consistency, it's really thick as is. I'm sure it could be tweaked with plenty of other allowable seasonings to personal tastes. It's not exactly ranch-ranch has a sweeter taste to me, but even that could be remedied with a packet of splenda

I store it in the fridge in a tupperware
3 years ago, I lost 60 pounds in 12 weeks on Atkins.
I have PCOS, which makes my weight REALLY sensitive to carb intake, and I've gained back most of it since going off plan.

I use Hidden Valley Ranch (bottled). The bacon version has one less carb than the "original".

Re: Doh! Need for flavor is killing me!

I've been really upping my veggie intake lately. I like to saute them in olive oil. Onions, bell peppers & jalapenos are the basic starters. Then I'll toss in whatever else. Tonight was mushrooms and broccoli to have with my steak.

What about bacon to spice things up? I'll cut up a couple of strips of bacon and begin to cook them while I wash and prep green beans which I'll finish cooking with the bacon. At the lastminute I'll toss in some tomatoe wedges.

Garlic is another stand by. I've noticed that it taste different based on how it is prepped. Minced vs sliced. Or roasted. Or powdered.

                        Hope that helps.

I looked at packets of ranch flavoring at the grocery store today, but they were all crazy high in carbs :-(

Get the bottled salad dressing. Hidden Valley Ranch is 2 net carbs per serving. The Bacon variety is 1.
