  • Should my wife be on this diet with me????

Well I am on my 16 day of the diet I’m staying on induction. My wife is also on the diet with me which she really doesn’t need to lose any more weight and I know why she is doing it, for me “ I LOVE HER ” but my question is , she was already on a diet for about 5 months and she lost about 18 pounds by just cutting her portions and exercising daily which is good for her but my fear is that with her being on this diet will it screw her up if she decides to go off of it and all that hard work she had done was for nothing. . she is about 10 pounds to her goal and when we started I told her she should probably keep doing what she was doing but she wanted to join with her hubby . or should I have her jump up to pre maintenance or lifetime the book say not to skip pre but I think she might be ok she doesn’t really eat anyways. Your thoughts comments>>

    Who does the cooking?

Actually, you can't make your wife (or anyone else) choose any way of eating.

    Has she read DANDR?

    What's her thinking?

I dont think she has to be on the diet with you. She could go up to maintenance while you work up. Lots of us have families that eat regular meals and it doesn't seem to be a problem. The maintenance is a good, healthy plan so tell her to look at it and see what she thinks.

she does the cooking.no she hasnt read the book yet she just has gotten all the information from me. she has the itroductory food list ion the fridge. she lost about 5 pounds on induction so she is happy but she keeps making comments like im not sure i can handle this diet i was doing ok on my other one. she is a big fries and chips person so she is missing that alot. im fine if she stays on it i just dont want it to have a big affect on her body if she goes off...

It's not really your choice to make for her.

I suggest that you both read DANDR and make a decision together if this is a way of eating you would like to adopt for your family. If the family is together on it, and it seems you're both willing to do that, then that's awesome. It's a very healthy way of eating! Seriously, how can we go wrong by eliminating empty calorie starches and sugars from our diet???

She could have fries and chips on her diet? Does she just want a diet or does she want a lifestyle change. She can go to pre-main. and be on a very healthy dietary change where she can have fruit, nuts etc. and have more freedom on her foods. She could stay on it for a bit and then move to the final stage.

But if she's wanting to incorporate junk food back into her eating, this is not the right plan for her. Since this WOE is a dieretic she will probably see a gain when she goes off, especially if she goes back to salty and high carb eating.

Best for her to decide now then months down the road.

that is exactly my point.. i plan on staying on this diet and im not sure she is willing to do that and i dont want her to ballon back up and all her hard work was for nothing. i will just sit down with her and we can talk about it. personally id rather her be on it because it makes it easier for me but i dont want to be selfish so we will talk about her options.. and ill let her make the decision.

It sounds like all your wife knows about Atkins is induction. At the very least, print out the stickies explaining the owl rungs and pre-maintenance. Maybe the range of foods available to her will make giving up chips and fries easier. She can add some of those foods as sides for herself now and, as a bonus, have some new recipes ready for you when you get there.

I think its great that she decided to go on it for you! However, we are all different and she will have to make that decision. I do see your point and if she has all the facts and decides that another plan will work best for her, then so be it. There are many households where people eat differently and it all works out. Many meals can be made where each person takes what they can have on their WOE.

It's refreshing to see that she is willing to do what will help you. You sound like a very loving couple!
