  • And I gave up...carbs overdose

I just finished my induction, it went pretty well...I dropped some pounds and were happy. Yesterday I did probably the biggest mistake ever...I bought a box of Atkins endulge chocolates, 5 per box 180kcal each. And today I ate the whole box!!!!!! They were just so good that I couldn't stop. It was 4 net carbs per bar, which makes only 20carbs per box, but the total carb count is just crazy high (sugar alcohols).
I don't want to totally give up, I still want to continue but I wonder what kind of effect does this one time carb overdose create? Has this happened to anybody? If I continue to control myself, will I still lose weight or do I have to start from the beginning now?

    Thanks for all the help

what i have found (had a valentines dinner pig fest) was that my weight loss stalled for about 3 days and then i lost a lb. just get back on track, drink a LOT of water and get out for some fresh air and you should be fine.

one oinker fest won't kill you in the long run.

      Welcome!

I guess you learned what to NEVER keep in your house. It is good to learn what you can and can't eat---what foods make you lose control of yourself.
A lot of us feel that Peanut Butter is too tempting to keep in the pantry, so we just do not buy it.

One spoonful leads to 1/2 a bottle....OR WORSE!!!

Just jump back on and you should be fine in a few days.

Thanks. I really hope it isn't the worst thing and now I know I can't "save $" and buy a whole box, I guess it is better to occasionally stop by CVS and buy 1 bar for the price of half a box, at least then I can control myself!
Plus I've been in the bathroom half a day...that's the side effect of consuming too much sugar alcohols. Hope this will do good too I can't even go to the gym today because of that problem

          You might want to read:

Re: And I gave up...carbs overdose

Just get straight back on the Atkins wagon. I did a similar thing this week, ate several bars of chocolate in one go, I just had to have them, I stuffed those suckers in so fast I didn't even taste them. Felt ashamed and silly (and very ill and sick later on from the sugar)

I didn't lose for a day or two but got on the scales this morning and another pound has come off. We are all human, dont beat yourself up too much one lapse isn't too much to worry about.

              Hi Steffy,

I got so caught up in the "self control" reply that I forgot to address the Atkins/chocolate bar issue itself. Besides likely creating a tummy or bathroom issue, they are junk, they only contribute to a sweet tooth, and eating them just adds more temptation. I have been on this plan for over 6 months, and never even thought of buying those products. The ATKINS WOE is about eating unprocessed foods. Not about eating the stuff that the ATKINS COMPANY is trying to sell us to make money.

I did have a few bars (in NOV) that my son ran out to buy for me at a drugstore-- it was when we spent the day in a hospital 70 miles from home,
that had the absolute WORST food I have ever seen in the hospital cafeteria,
and tasted even worse, as I tried to stay legal.
Could barely find anything to eat there, and we couldn't leave to eat out. We were called there early that day because my dad took a turn for the worst, and died that afternoon. My son ran out to get them for me thinking they would help me since I needed food, but the choices were slim.

Sorry to run on like that, but my point was, those products should only be for a real emergency. Not because you want some "chocolate."

              Steffy,
Believe me, you will be better off in the long run to just forget about them.

Re: And I gave up...carbs overdose

Take the Atkins Endulge Caramel Nut Chew for example...

                130 calories...

subtract 9 calories per gram of fat, 8g... 72 calories
subtract 4 calories per gram of protein, 5g... 20 calories

leaves us 38 calories... divided by 4 to get our carbohydrates... from what? The sugar alcohols... but as you can see the label claims 17 carbs, yet we have a solid 18. Personally I don't subtract the sugar alcohols.

That's 18 carbs per bar. Minus 6 grams of fiber leaves 12 carbs per bar. And the first ingredient in the chocolate is Malitol, the worst sugar alcohol out there. It affects the blood sugar almost as badly as real sugar and hits the digestive system with a vengeance as you have discovered...

And as I rediscovered with Valentine's chocolates recently.

I have considered having checking the boards for attorneys to see if we could file a class action lawsuit against the Atkins company for lieing so flagrantly to us, but... I'd rather just speak loudly against them for now. LOL

You're not the first to fall for it and won't be the last. Chalk it up to experience. After my debacle I went ahead and did induction for a couple days to get back in the swing of things then returned to OWL. It took those two days for th ecravings to finally subside again. Just... not... worth it.

Re: And I gave up...carbs overdose

ANI isn't lying ... they're not allowed by law to include the ingredient glycerine on the nutritional label.

That's why the math doesn't work.

Hmmm... but if they claim on the front label that there are only a couple net carbs per bar....

Do those un-accounted for calories just disappear into thin air? I'm confused what glycerin has to do with it. Not trying to challenge just learn more.

                      That's true.

Gylcerine is like sugar alcohols, it's subtracted.

It's just not in the nutritional information ... so it's hard to know what the real numbers are.

Since the demise of poor old Dr A the company appears to have been taken over by unscrupulous people out to make bucket loads of money. Dr A was a qualified physician whose aim was to help people break free of their addictions and become healthy. Looking at (what appears to be) their website they have the phrase 'sweet sexy science' plastered all over it, how scary is that? Is it actually anything to do with the Atkins foundation now?

Sorry guys and girls-rant over....these things just get me grrrrrrrrr

Assuming that you are still on induction or moving on to OWL rung 1, why are you eating Atkins bars? They aren't on the legal induction list of foods...
