  • signs for a no-no food? How can you tell?

    Hi all...
Can you tell me what happens to you when you try a new food and then you know it's NOT going to be ok? Do you know immediately? What are the signs and symptoms other than cravings for it? hunger? obviously, weight gain but What else happens?
I've been successful (I think) adding most new foods. Can anyone share "telltale" signs for them that a new food is a no no?
    Thanks

One experience I had was with the Dannon Carb Control yogurt ... I had one container and I wanted to eat them all.

Same with the Atkins Daybreak bars.

I knew I couldn't have either of those!

Cravings, just not wanting to let it go, wanting more regardless that I wasn't hungry

One of my signs I wouldn't call cravings so much (I think of a craving as wanting a specific food) but crazy MUNCHIES. I want FOOD and more of it, even though I am full.

Thanks, Ladies...I''m hearing all the same things....OUTTA control again..that issue has disappeared with Atkins so far. But I'm WAY familiar with it and will watch for it, carefully...any others? Physical/mental signs. I'm on the LOOKOUT. Added Netrition's CarbNot Butter last night. One tablespoon and was able to put it down, but not without an inner struggle. Might have to take great care and caution with it. I had a MAJOR love affair with peanut butter before this WOE..it literally OWNED me...

Dr Atkins says any food that gives you trouble you should get rid of.

I have wantings for desserts and swwets after having anything sweetened with Splenda so I had to give it up.

Celery makes me want high carb foods so I can't eat it as celery sticks.

But sometimes it isn't the food it is a real life trigger which is why it is good to take notes as you try new foods and answer the Ws who what when where why and how you felt before during and after you ate it and again about hours after.

I ate on plan foods when eating with my younger sister who is an out of control diabetic eating all the sweets she wants and just swallowing more of her meds to conpensate. Hours after eating with her I wanted to eat the whole house. Because I was journaling I realized the only common demoninator for the wants on those days was her. I stopped eating with her and poof the wants went away.

Peanuts... I get a stuffed nose from them (never noticed pre-Atkins).

Anything with a lot of cheese causes me to overeat.

              Pumpkin and tomatoes trigger cravings.

Mascarpone and strawberries make me go for seconds.

Since this is a general question, not concerned exclusively with the Maintenance phase, I moved the thread out of the Atkins Maintenance forum.
