    Hello everyone,

I've been anorexic/bulemic for about 2 years now. Eating very little mainly fruit and veggies. Will atkins help me to get rid of the excess weight I have built up? Or will I just gain more weight? I want to get healthy but have many pounds to lose. I'm afraid that if I eat fat I'll get fatter and more unhappy than I already am. I'm already so discouraged and disgusted with myself for having that habit and allowing it to take over my life. I guess I'm getting over mourning the loss of the disease and ready to take on a new life. Any experience?

Atkins works to teach your body to fuel itself with the fat stored inside you, instead of with the carbohydrates that you consume. If you generally consume mostly fruit and vegtables, they are loaded with carbohydrates. These carbs feed the body and the excess are stored as fat cells.

When you start the Atkins' WOE, your body stops fueling itself from the carbs you ingest, and switches over to converting the stored fat to energy. The fat you must ingest on Atkins' is the key to success. You should create a food log on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and use it to track what you are eating. Read the sticky posts on induction to determine what is ok, and how much fat, protien, and carbs (from veggies) you should be ingesting.

    Good luck,

      Re: ex-anorexic/bulemic

      I was anorexic.
I think it will be very hard not to gain weight.. I tried to be healthy while recovering but it was so emotional for me that I just went to emotional eating disorder.
Atkins helped me lose weight from there though. I think I would defiantly just try it.
The biggest mistake when recovering from anorexia is eating junk food, I only had to do that for one day and I was hooked for ages.
      Ready for change

Yes, I do have support for this issue. I like to think of it as a past issue. Just looking for some peace in life and I'd like to be comfortable in body for once.

            Re: ex-anorexic/bulemic

eskimos eat a diet of up to 80% fat and lots of saturated animal fats but all them who eat there native diet they have 0% obesity, 0% heart disease, 0% type 2 diabetes

eskimos have a body fat% of only 10%!

so really you don't need to be afraid of eating fat

also eating fat with vegetables helps you absorb the vitamins and nutrients in them up too 10 or was it 20 times better? i forgot

              Re: ex-anorexic/bulemic

You built up weight eating fruit and vegetables? If you don't mind (and you do not have to) would you like to give your stats? How much are you planning to lose?

Eating fat is what we are about on Atkins so you have to overcome your fears

                Re: ex-anorexic/bulemic

I am a recovering/recovered anorexic. My advice is to do like I have done and work with your therapist and doctors. Have them assign you a nutritionist. Your nutritionist will work with your doctors and advise you on a plan to get to a healthy weight. They should be able to structure your diet and exercise routine so that you don't fall back into old habits. Your therapist should be able to help you prepare your brain to except what is happening. I will be honest and tell you it is a daily battle but if you really want to get well you can.

You say your anorexic/bulemic. Do you restrict and then end up binging? Because anorexics are non eaters and lose weight by restricting food. Bulemics tend to binge eat and purge which is against what most anorexics believe in.

I am curious as to what your height and weight are?
