  • Question about the scale

Ok, so I know that it is NOT a good thing to get on the scale daily. But, I'm just curious about one thing:

If you get on the scale one morning and get a number and the next morning you get on the scale and there is a 2 pound increase, is that water retention? I'm thinking there is no way you could do a 2 pound FAT increase overnight?

I know that your weight fluctuates daily, but i'm wondering exactly WHAT that fluctuation is, water or fat?

    Re: Question about the scale

Personally I have found that the scale is not my friend no matter what it reads simply because for most of my life I used the scale to determine my self-worth. If you're jumping on the scale more often than once a month or once a week, it may be something to consider just for your own peace of mind. And that advice is unsolicited and is worth what you paid for it LOL

As to the water retention, sure especially for females. I gain about 5 pounds, sometimes more, right around my TOM. Believe it or not drinking more water helps. I have also used water pills when I get really bloated. Might want to take a look at the amount of sodium you're taking in. Also if you go to the gym, swimming can help with water retention. I don't know if it's the exercise or the water pressure on the body or a combo of the two, but I find that swimming followed by sweat time in the sauna can really wring me out pretty well.

      Re: Question about the scale

      It's fluid, not fat.

It's not necessarily bad to weigh daily. Some people do that and are fine with it... and they don't obsess about the number. Others prefer to weigh only once a week, not to be disappointed by normal weight fluctuations.

Anyway, don't forget the measuring tape.

        Re: Question about the scale

Thanks you guys! I am horrible at jumping on the scale. The curiosity KILLS me..lol....
I don't get disappointed because I am so confident in what I'm doing (WOE) and that I am doing it right. I know that it takes time. I've lost so many inches and the tape measure is really an awesome ally right now...lol!
I was just really concerned about the biology behind the fluctuation. I know that yesterday I had country ham in the morning and soy sauce on an egg foo young patty last night...as a matter of fact, it was A LOT of soy sauce...lol...so I'm sure it was due to the salt. I usually don't consume much salt.

            Re: Question about the scale

Also... if you jump on the scale and see a two lb drop... again it could just be water... don't assume that it's only water when it is going up, it works both ways, when the weight goes up and also when it goes down...
